Kyrgyzstan competed in the Winter Olympic Games as an independent nation for the first time at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.
An interesting curiosity was that unfortunately the Kyrgyz team did not arrive in time for the opening ceremony. Therefore the honor of carrying the Kyrgyzs flag for the first time into an Olympic arena fell upon the designated Norwegian translator, Torkel Engeness.
