[edit] H. G. Wells
- G. K. Chesterton wrote The Everlasting Man in response to Wells, disputing his portrayals of human life and society as a seamless evolution from animal life, of Jesus Christ as another charismatic leader, and of Christianity as another religious movement.
- In 1927 a Canadian woman, Florence Deeks, sued Wells for plagiarism such that much of the Outline was taken from her unpublished manuscript, The Web of the World's Romance, which was held over a year by his North American publisher, MacMillan & Company. While her claim was dismissed, both manuscripts shared many errors and omissions. In 2000, A. B. McKillop of Carleton University wrote a book in her favor. (review)
