[edit] Synopsis
Can someone pretty-please break the synopsis into 3 parts according to season instead of just putting the synopsis for season 1?
- Is it a good logical breaking point? If I remember right, it's the cut between Great Cimarron war arc and the Boxes arc, but I'm not so sure. Lemme re-watch the last Episode of S1 and the first of S2 so I can refresh on where the break is, then I'll be happy to, providing it's a good logical stop point. [edit] Proposal of a New Format for Synopsis Section
Actually, upon reviewing that section, I see what you mean, anon. It can't be further expanded until it gets organized since the section contain a jumble of info ranging from plot summary to setting to musings, etc. I have laid out a draft for a new design at User:Mfrisk/KKMsynopsis creating three sections to replace the existing single Synopsis: Setting, for info about time, place, backgroung, counties, etc; Synopsis, for a plot summary organized into three subheadings - one for each season; and Themes, to discuss the ideas of justice and right/wrong, unity, etc.
The major idea was to offset all the great info in the section into organized sections of its own, where it can be expanded effectively, leaving only the few strands of plot summary, where we can decide to expand or eliminate it, as the community deems.
Please stop by and expand, discuss, comment, criticize or otherwise see what you think! Mfrisk (talk) 09:41, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Litteral Translation?
What is the presice translation of Kyou Kara Maou? I know that Maou is "Mazoku King." Mazoku is a very specific breed of demon. They usually look like elves covered in tattoos; Keika from Ja-Dou, Xelgaddas from Slayers, & ALL the Youkai from Saiyuki. But sometimes they take on other form, such as man-eating plants, etc.
Come to think of it, Kyo Kara Maoh is one of the few manga or anime with Mazoku I've ever seen that didn't use the tattooed elf look. Like the way Ningyo were once fish with only the heads of man & are now man-eating mermaids with webbed finders, neck gills, & finned ears, when you see a tattooed elf you just know it's Mazoku. I think Youkai is just another name for Mazoku.
The kanji "今日", "Kyou", specifically means the time indicator "today". "から", "kara", is a prepositional "from". "Kyou Kara Maou" translates literally as "Maou From Today [onward]", which is read better in English as "Maou from Now On".
And due to Yokai, Akuma, Mazoku, etc all being fictional beings, there are numerous takes on how they may appear. Though I do believe one of the running gags in KKM is that the Mazoku are not what Yuuri (or Jennifer, for that matter) initially expect(s).
I guess a way to think of it is, when you hear "elf", do you think of Tolkien or Keebler. XD

[edit] Still Going
This anime is still going on in Japan, right? Can I request season 3 spoilers via email from anyone here?
Me too! Spoilers get me going *_*
[edit] Shounen-ai? Shoujo?
I've seen the series classed as Shounen-ai elsewhere, and it can be seen why, with the engagement and the frequent homosexual references and undertones, so shouldn't that be one of the genres added? Also, what exactly classes it as a Shoujo anime? If anything I'd say it is quite the opposite.
Agree, it's actually shounen-ai but in the same time I think it's also shoujo. I don't know what others think but in my opinion, Kyou Kara Maou is more prefered by girls than boys as most of the characters in the series happend to be cute guys... I don't think most boys like to watch that kind of anime. Well, maybe that's why it's classed as Shoujo..
- Most shounen-ai series are classified as shoujo anyway, since the majority of shounen-ai fans are girls. Because of Kyou Kara Maou's shounen-ai subtext, I'd say it l
& that's exactly why Gensoumaden Saiyuki is misclassified as Shounen. Shounenai is a dead term though. It's a BL series; everything in Asuka DL CX has BL in it.eans towards being a shoujo anime.
Shounen-ai is a dead term refurring to flowery, angsty, & often tragic boy-boy series of the late 60s to the early 90s. The series is a BL Fantasy Comedy, not unlike Loveless. It's not standard shoujo because the series focuses far too much on gay jokes (moreso than Jay & Silent Bob) & has as heavy an appeal for mix-&-match pairings as Saiyuki (i.e. it's a yaoi doujinshi magnet).
The illustrator, Temari Matsumoto (松本テマリ) however, is known for her BL illustrations in manga & "Gensou Suikoden 2" hardcore yaoi doujinshis, assisted by Sukesaburou Barugo & Ouji Henshoku. [JPQueen][Amazon.co.jp] So the look & feel of boy X boy love is at least intentional on HER part.
So, wait, is this like a yaoi version of MariMite? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.65.85.234 (talk) 19:49, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
It's more like a gay version of Ouran Highschool Host Club with an Alice in Wonderland or Dorothy of Oz type story. I was expecting just a little bit of BL when I first started watching it, but Wolfram is dead set on marrying Yuuri, Conrat was in love with the person Yuuri was in a past life & realizes that the sould is still the same, Gwendal likes anything cute, Gunter gets a nosebleed every time he thinks about Yuuri nakked, Yozak is a professional crossdresser, Ken was involved with the last Maou in a past life & seems intrigued with Yuuri, & even Yuuri's brother is freakishly overprotective. The OAV was exceptionally slashy & introduces another beautiful man named Saralegui who has a deepening interest in Yuuri. Plus it has male bathhouse scenes & Wolfram finally steals a kiss.
[edit] Yuri vs Yuuri
Some user (or users) keep changing Yuri's name to Yuuri. This is not correct. Wikipedia convention is to refer to characters using their official English names, and in the official English version of the show the character is called Yuri (see http://www.kyokaramaoh.com/ ). The original Japanese names are already given in the Characters section.
In addition, 'Yuri' isn't actually wrong, even as a transliteration of the Japanese. There are a number of different romanisation schemes that treat long vowels differently, and both 'add u after the vowel' and 'use a single vowel' are commonly used. There's a fairly good overview at Hepburn_romanization#Variations if you want to read more. In fact, it's probably more common for Japanese people with that name to romanise it as 'Yuri' - check out http://www.google.com/search?q=yuri+有利 (12,800 hits) compared to http://www.google.com/search?q=yuuri+有利 (561 hits). In some parts of Japan, the L pronounciation is strong. In the late 90s, there a good-looking ace Gackt-cosplayer from Japan who called himself Yuly & spelled it that way too.
While I've never done that edit from Yuri to Yuuri, my understanding from the native-speakers I know is that the "Yuuri" version is more accurate, as the name "Yuri" without the extended vowel sound is usually female. (Though since this is knowledge from personal experience rather than documentation, I understand if it's disregarded.) Lodrelhai 07:37, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- What we need is consistency with WP's other anime articles, where it would say: Yuri Shibuya (しぶや ユーリ Shibuya Yūri?) but I don't know the proper Kanji for his family name, so I can't make the change. Anyone out there know?Mfrisk (talk) 11:12, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

- Perhaps you could check the art book scans or some external website to ge the kanji. Yūri, the ū gives the sound of two u's (uu) so thats why people change it to Yuuri often. However, this could also be because of the subs, where most common fansubbers sub it as Yuuri.--Hanaichi 11:26, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks Hana. I found a doujin scan at http://pdk.broken-sunshine.net/images/novel/novel01characters.jpg and its not official, but its more research than anyone else has done. I added the kanji to the article as necessary. later on i will do the other characters' katakana as well. feel free to field check me, and i will look for an official text as well. and i have left the single U speeling since the long u character implies that it is a long vovel in Japanese, but has been officially transliterated as Yuri by the license-holders. - Also, in my proposed reformat of the section, I've added the kanji for Ken, and field checked both for accuracy.Mfrisk (talk) 10:59, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kyou Kara Maou! vs Kyo Kara Maoh!
I think it is important for wikipedia to record the original spellings of the title and the characters, for posterity. It is simple enough to note that the official translations use different spelling, but we should not erase history, however trivial.
- We already do - the intro says "今日からマ王! Kyō Kara Maō!". Those are the original spelling in Japanese, and the standard romanisation of this according to the Revised Hepburn method, which is the standard method used on Wikipedia (see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles)#Romanisation). As I've mentioned above with Yuri/Yuuri, it's just a case of a different romanisation convention being used, not a change of name. Ironfrost 13:36, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Regardless of which one is chosen, shouldn't the name of the page and the name on the first line agree? 07:38, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wolfram and Gwendal: Half-brothers not brothers
Changed the line which stated "[Wolfram] is a half-brother of Conrad and brother of Gwendal". It is clear from their surnames that they each had a different father. (We all know how Cecilie really gets around!) --Lareine 17:31, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Aliases
I deleted some of the aliases allotted to some of the main cast ("Baseball Boy" for Yuuri, "Enticing Eyes" for Conrad, "Mr. Beautiful Hair" for Gunter, and "Blondie" for Wolfram). All the aliases mentioned are from an Animax commercial used to describe the characters as a means of promoting the series in Asia, and are in no way mentioned throughout the series itself. 58.69.95.162 14:19, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] About Wolfram's profile.
From the 24th of April on, user ip 203.83.115.130 / 203.83.115.131 / 203.83.115.132 has been erasing Wolfram's profile from every wikipedia page. English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese etc etc. Everytime someone goes and fixes it, she/he deletes it again. If you check the history of changes of that IP, she/he had been also altering legitimate data in pages about Domestic Violence and Homophobia, as she/he pleases. This IP should probably be banned.
I just wanna know if Wolfram gets him. I'm a manga series that started in the 70ss called Eroica where a thief loved a German major who hated his guts & 30 years latter the thief is no closer. I have a procrastinating voice in the back of my head nagging me that they're going to call off the engagement at the end of the series. I don't think my heart can handle that kind of aggrivationg outcome. Someone please toss an optimistic spoiler my way! >.<
[edit] "Edit" button
There's a problem with this I hope someone can fix. When you click the Edit tab next to Conrad's profile, it goes to the edit page for Wolfram's profile. It you click the tab next to Wolfram's profile, it goes to Gwendal's edit page. And so on. The edit page for Conrad's profile is missing. Can anyone fix this? Sumhtun 04:57, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, fixed it. Some added this <include only> or something tag. Sumhtun 06:20, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:Maou.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Licensing Up in the Air?
Does anyone have current info on the license status of this title? Article says Geneon owns the title, but as we know, Dentsu ceased to operate Geneon last October. As far as I know, two more volumes were scheduled to be released since then and have not been, leading me to believe either no one (or Dentsu) owns the rights so it's in limbo or it has been sold to someone who has either decided not to continue prodction at the moment, or is in the process of starting production back up. This info is not readily available from a Google search, so I think it is that much more important to get into the WP article. Any thoughts? Mfrisk (talk) 11:23, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
