[edit] Pre-Program
Kyoichi Motobuchi is one of the class of third-year students at the fictional Shiroiwa Junior High School. He was the male class representative, and studied very hard to achieve the top grades; in the novel and manga, Kazuo Kiriyama was his only real competition.
Kyoichi was always immaculately dressed, with his hair perfectly groomed.
In the novel and manga, Kyoichi's father had an important position in the government, so Kyoichi had believed he would be exempt from the program. Apparently in the manga, he is pressured by his father and has expectations to satisfy his father ("No faggots for the big man!")
In the novel, is stated that, prior to the program, Kyoichi's hair was usually parted at a 7:3 ratio.
In the film, Kyoichi asks Kitano if he is allowed to go home after the game; Kitano replies that Kyoichi may go home if the other classmates die.
[edit] During The Program
After Shuya Nanahara and Tatsumichi Oki finish their fight, Kyoichi walks up from behind and threatens Shuya (who is still in shock over what just happened with Oki) with a Smith & Wesson .38 Chief's Special Revolver. Shogo Kawada arrives and shouts "stop" but Kyoichi turns and shoots at Shogo. In the manga and novel, Shogo shoots Kyoichi's arm off with his shotgun. This fails to stop Kyoichi, who simply picks the gun up from the floor with his remaining hand and attacks Shogo again.
Kyoichi concentrates on Shogo, instead of Shuya, but Shogo shoots him in the stomach, at close range, killing him. His dead body is described in the novel as looking like "the contents of a sausage factory trash bin".
In the movie, Kyoichi is shot by Shogo in the stomach. He gets back up, screaming, "Get out of the way!" and runs up to the top of the hill where Shogo was standing. He only managed to fire once before Shogo shoots him again, and Kyoichi hits the ground, twitching a little before dying.
