[edit] CQJbot
It's a pgkbot clone that monitors for changes in MedCab cases and the MedCab project space and returns results to IRC hence why I made an edit to the Desk (since it's a monitored cvp page). I'm still making sure it's doing what it's supposed to do before I approach anyone about outputting it into #wikipedia-medcab. Off to dinner, will return soon :-) CQJ 21:34, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification! So, do your bot and Keiteibot communicate? (Just curiosity) ~Kylu (u|t) 05:42, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy A7
Hey; I think I've removed a few of your speedy deletion tags. Keep in mind that A7 is a very narrow criterion: it's about a single person, or a small group of people, with no claim whatsoever to notability. Articles on people who don't meet WP:BIO or on bands that don't meet WP:MUSIC, but claim notability in any way are not speedyable. A7 does not apply to corporations or websites. It's really better that it works this way; WP:BIO is an official guideline, but it's not a policy, and there are enough people who disagree with notability in general that WP:N is not even a guideline (or a proposed guideline). Mangojuicetalk 04:30, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- I'm a bit torn, honestly. Some bands don't assert notability, they honestly say "We're a four person garage band that was formed two weeks ago" and another says "We've been #1 on the Billboard Top 40 for six years in a row" yet the members are only 15. (Yes, seriously, I've ran into that one.) When it's an obvious hoax, I'd rather like to invoke the Ignore All Rules policy and delete the hoax first. Why give the obvious ... uhm ... exaggerators the benefit of deletion discussion when the honest edits don't? Anyway, I've chatted with people about this before. Some agree with me and process the deletes, some remove them. I have no intention of reverting your removal of the templates though! If you'd like to talk more about notability, I'm game! :) ~Kylu (u|t) 05:41, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

although our paths have only crossed very shortly, all the beautiful qualities that stem from your bright personality deserve nothing shorter of my utmost admiration. Just how often can one find such kindness, thoughtfulness, intelligence and talent in a single person?
You are a rare and precious asset to our community, and in time, you will lead the way for many of us.
I offer myself to you as your friend, and I gladly offer my help whenever you need me, ever,

[edit] Thank you for everything
Well, I just finished with the editing of my page and I modeled it after yours since you were the first person to introduce yourself to me here and I remembered how great an editor you were; I hope you don't mind. And I even have a colorful new signiture too. ^^ 十八 05:53, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ack; we can't have copyrighted images on our userpages? O_o Now I'll have to find another one; aw man, I like that picture of Megumi too...Oh well *Goes to edit it out*. Thanks for what you said about my new page, but I just basically stole all your code and edited it to fit my preference. ^^;; 十八 05:53, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

- May I make a suggestion for the image? [commons:]. Tons and tons and tons of images, just go looking! You'd be quite surprised. Anyway, no, people get in trouble for having copyrighted ("fair use") images on their pages. I'm pondering a switch to blue, myself, just to throw people off. :D ~Kylu (u|t) 04:50, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I need help
First, sorry if this is the wrong place to do this, but a friend said you could help. This concerns the article ATWI80D about a contraversial series on newgrounds. I am opposed to the series, but have not, like others that dislike the series, been abusive to the page in my opposition. Instead I added a true section that proves that the author is aggressive towards people that dislike the series, but have done so by repeatedly saying that dislike of the series is an OPINION and that only SOME find it offensive. However, another user, Cocks, who obviously is a fan of the series, constantly deletes my post citing it as false information, even though I used actual quotes and true events. I cannot link to the pages on which these events occured, seeing as they have no visible web address. On several occasions I voiced my complaints on the Talk section of ATWI80D, but Cocks continues to delete my work. Please help, or direct me to a person who can help. Thank you.
--Kamikazetomato 19:38, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- In all honesty, I can't see how a newgrounds flash with 80 non-Wikipedia Google hits is even vaguely notable (see WP:WEB). The potential for the article to be deleted is quite high, actually. I'd suggest letting it alone until the article vanishes and go work on something more constructive. I'll happily give you a list of Wikipedia tasks that need work if you'd like. :) I realize it's not the answer you want to hear, but I really think it's nothing to worry over, and really all of the non-material comments (such as opinions on the flash) are unsourced (see WP:V) and not written in a neutral point of view (see WP:NPOV).
- If you really want to stay with this, however, I'd probably suggest leaving a note on his talkpage asking him to talk to you about the situation and try to work out the differences. ~Kylu (u|t) 02:31, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, that solution's fine (but he deleted the talk page because it was against what he thought was fair to discuss.) But I'd be happy to help with articles that need it. --Kamikazetomato 09:48, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] HDD issues
The computer I do all my wiki-work is currently having personal issues. From the way it sounds, I'm going to guess that the motor that spins the platters is starting to fail, so I'll need to get a new drive ASAP. If I'm missing for a couple days...well, you know why in advance. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 02:31, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- While I was stuck using an ancient machine for a couple days, finally the new drive is installed and working, and everything seems to be 100%, though for some reason I'm missing cookies and other "temporary" settings that you'd think would be moved onto a new drive. I don't quite get why they didn't, though am backing up certain key directories onto disk just-in-case.
- Moral of the story here, kiddies: BACK UP YOUR HARD DRIVE! Seriously. It sucks if the old one crashes. Fortunately, my old drive stayed up just long enough to get copied over, then it completely died. It took 22 hours to copy 160GB of data! ~Kylu (u|t) 23:48, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cookies
Kylu, Thanks for the delicious home-made chocolate chip cookie. It was one of the very finest and high level gooiest home-made chocolate chip cookies I ever et. Bon appetit! My sig is messed up. - Actually, I think all you need to do is check the "raw signature" box when you're entering your sig. Looks like the code is just fine. ~Kylu (u|t) 04:24, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Admin's work
Hi,
Isn't this supposed to be done only by admins? Thanks, — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 13:05, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- In Kylu's defense, the user had already been denied an unblock request and they appear to be spamming requests now. It is pretty clear that the user won't be unblocked any time soon. Besides, why shouldn't regular users be disallowed from giving their two cents in such cases? Disallowing them only increases the rift between sysops and normal editors, while in theory everyone should be an administrator (see WP:ADMIN). Cowman109Talk 14:31, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Refering to {{unblock reviewed}}, it states that "One or more administrators has reviewed this request and declined to unblock the account." Nornal users can (and should be allowed to) give their opinions, but they should make sure not to make the matter confusing. I am not defending Anwar, and what Kylu said is perfectly justified; but while seeing the history of the talk page, I was surprised to find Kylu's RfA closing successfully so soon. Only after visiting the RfA page did I know what exactly happened. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 15:00, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

- The request was reviewed by admins on the antivandalism channel, I just updated the message to save them time. ~Kylu (u|t) 16:34, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Right after the reply, my lovely harddrive decided to freeze up (again...two more days until I can get a new one...) and when I get it back up and running, I'm told on IRC that it's already mentioned on my RfA. I'm sorry if anyone was upset, but I was simply acting as the messenger in this case. ~Kylu (u|t) 17:40, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I'd like to make my own awards
I'm not sure I want to give out barnstars yet ... I'd like to make awards out of userboxes. Can I do that? Or how do I make awards? And where on wikipedia would I find good images for this idea? I can't seem to find a good dir in the commons.
JamieJones talk 01:39, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- There's no "Barnstar coordinating committee" (yet) on Wikipedia, just give them out as you feel is appropriate. Don't overdo it though, as there are a lot of people who work tirelessly on here and never get any recognition at all. If you find them, make sure they know they're appreciated, please. :)
- As far as award resources go, let's see what I can dig up: WP:UBX is the central page for userboxes if you'd like to use it, though there are users who dislike userboxes (some dislike barnstars too, for that matter)
- WP:BARNSTAR has a bunch of premade awards, WP:PUA has a few nifty ones, WP:ORA for "Other awards", WP:ESP/I for Esperanza's award images (While I'm not a member, I'd heartily suggest them. Very nice bunch of people and I seem to be friends with a ton of them!)
- If you just want good images, check out Commons:Category:Barnstars sometime. Endless, endless supply! Great stuff. :)
- Oh, and one last thing... thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for deciding you'd like to give a smile or two to other Wikipedians. A lot of them work very hard and when it finally gets down to time to see what's done at the end of the day, they don't have anything to look at and go, "Hey, they really appreciate me!" We're human, it helps. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 01:59, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- I posted your reply (above) on my talk page for reference. Also, I spent hours creating 2 of my own awards based on your sweet cookie! So thanks! I've give out 5 awards so far. What do you think? JamieJones talk 04:17, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RE: Your RFA
Regarding the question I asked you: The idea came to mind that such an scheme of becoming an admin for bad faith purposes could happen about a month ago, when someone mentioned it on the Admin notice board. It was quickly realized to be a WP:BEANS incident. However, the possibility exists (Not to say I think you will do such a thing), and I though it was my duty to bring up the possibility of it on your RfA especially because you are a relatively new editor. I hope you didn’t take it the wrong way :). After some more time I will happily vote Support for you. Good Luck! Nookdog 02:07, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- P.S I didn’t realize you reverted one of my edits before. It was probably during my darker days :(
- I've been editing under this account since the beginning of April but have been interested in Wikipedia (especially the internal policy stuff) for quite a bit longer than that, check the contribs for User:206.246.160.221 (Yeah, I was anon for a year), which has been my IP for the last three years. I read WP significantly more than I write. :)
- Anyway, no hard feelings there. At the moment it looks like the RfA can go either way, and I think I'm more interested in seeing it end than what the result will be at this point in time. You should see some of the questions I get while on IRC! It's got drawbacks and it's got benefits... I can instantly have an admin handy to review something stupid I did or show evidence of abuse to (s'why I hardly post on WP:AN/I), but on the other hand there are some people who may be failing to observe irc etiquette by randomly querying me and asking personal questions about the whole thing before deciding on a vote. I'm still unsure as to what someone's sexual orientation (or lack thereof) has to do with someone being a good potential admin.
- I'll be honest: I failed my role of assuming good faith with you for a bit and was absolutely sure I was being trolled, hence not wanting to reply to the question, but I do wish you well in your attempt to leave your vandalism past behind you. I'm rather curious what motivates a vandal, though, if you'd care to enlighten me as to your thoughts at that time?
- Good luck. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 02:26, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. Hope you fell better about the question now. To answer your question: Attention motivates a vandal. But now I much rather recieve good attention. So, to give you a word of advice if you succed in becoming an admin, dont make big deals out of trolls line this ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Archive40#Admin_candidate_experiment_with_vandalism ) because that is what they want to see :) Nookdog 02:44, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

- cheh? I have to do this again? I can't for at least 3 months, hopefully more right? omg. o.o;; ~Kylu (u|t) 03:27, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- one month is when people will chivvy you about it, that being the minimum decent interval apparently but you have every right to tell them to buzz off, you did your try, and wait as long as you like (including "forever"). But I think you're going to pass, so ha ha jokes on you... ++Lar: t/c 02:18, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just a Hello and voice of support
Hi, I just added my support in your RfA discussion :-) You shouldn't worry about the neutral and oppose --- some people are quite focused on edit counts and length of time here, but those are only proxies for maturity and there's ample evidence of your maturity, civility, dedication and kindness. Just the sort of admin Wikipedia needs. Based on the counts so far, I believe you'll be an admin soon - if not, don't worry, you'll be a natural the next time around. It's clear that you've had a significant positive impact on the community in the short time you've been here and that you already have a great base of support. Keep smiling! Brian 14:42, 13 July 2006 (UTC)btball
- *chuckle* Well, you've just gotten another "neutral" from me! I'm not to concerned by length of time or edits, and was very impressed with your answers, but my default position is "oppose" so you did all right. I'll repeat my comments from the RfA that I'd prefer to see some examples of your work "in the trenches." If you don't mind I'll put you on my wiki-stalking list (with Tito, Lar, and Nandesuka) and ping you when there's an issue that needs more eyeballs. While we often disagree (and Tito always takes the opposite position to me!) it's a good way to get into the real rough-and-tumble of adminship. How does that sound?
brenneman {L} 03:19, 14 July 2006 (UTC)- Feel free to ping me if you want (assuming I survive this? :D) even if I don't end up with the sysop bit. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 03:22, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi there Kylu.
This may be a little wierd (me never havign spoken to you before) but I've nominated your user page for the Esperanza User Page Award!!

I'm fond of Esperanza, but really have no idea of what's involved, even though some of my best friends are involved. If there's anything I can do to pretty up the page so your nomination has a better chance, please let me know!

- I'm afraid the rules say that any changes made to your user page now that I've nominated you wouldn't be taken into account, though when you compare our user pages, I don't think that there's much I could tell you about making a user page excellent!!

[edit] Advice
Hi, I just noticed an odd situation and I'm not sure what to do about it. Would you mind looking at the contributions of User:Rogerthat ? That user has created a whole bunch of userpages ... I'm not sure if I should prod or AfD or even CSD all the bogus user pages - or just leave them alone. It seems wrong ... but I don't know what the right process is in this case. It seems like Rogerthat might be setting up for sockpuppetry? Thanks in advance for any guidance. Brian 04:52, 15 July 2006 (UTC)btball
- Just taking a look, it appears they're not nonexistant users, (the majority at least have numerous edits) so I'd advise against tagging any of them for deletion. For all we know, they're real users who simply asked him to create userpages for them all. As far as sockpuppetry goes, check WP:SOCK: Unless they're being used to cause problems (like allow an editor to vote multiple times in a poll) there's no policy against it. You can report it to WP:AN/I if you'd like (read the page first), but try to remember to assume good faith about people. :) Good luck! ~Kylu (u|t) 05:10, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, that helps. I think I'll just ask him what they're all about on his talk page first. Thanks again. Brian 15:07, 15 July 2006 (UTC)btball
- Actually, someone else asked him first :-) He was just creating user pages for all the members that are a part of WP:AFL and adding them to categories of Category:Australian Football League supporters. Thanks, Brian 15:17, 15 July 2006 (UTC)btball

- No matter how much you want to do otherwise, always keep Assume Good Faith in the forefront of your mind, good sir! - Yes, I believe in Assume Good Faith - should probably add that userbox to my user page too :-) I think AAGF is important too. Thanks again for your help, I'm still somewhat of a newbie learning the ropes and am glad to get all the help I can. Brian 15:34, 17 July 2006 (UTC)btball

Be strong, dear Kylu - you deserve it, and you will make it! Cheer up! :) Big hugs, Phædriel ♥ tell me - 12:00, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- I really feel a little odd, since I was told, read, and honestly beleive that this is really no big deal, yet everyone seems to act differently. It's interesting when I read I think they should command respect and on some level be above the average editor in the discussion on oppose #25 (diff). I just have to wholeheartedly and enthusiastically disagree with Mr. Biswanger. If I command respect, I'd hope it's because I'd earned respect, not because a bureaucrat clicked a couple extra buttons making me "more powerful than your average editor". Example: User:Kim Bruning does not have +sysop set, yet commands more respect than I imagine I ever will. Phaedriel, you command more respect also, but it's because of who you are and not what funny numbers are in a database. I've had a turn playing PowerAnswer and, while it's fun for a while, it gets old and you find yourself alone and lacking positive interpersonal relationships when you're done. I'll tell you what... I'm quite guilty about wanting to dilute admin status though. I don't even like the name admin. Maybe "Delete-Capable Editor" perhaps?
- By the way, Phaedriel, I've been thinking for a while of trying a different color scheme, maybe an entirely different design. Any suggestions? Was thinking of making it a little more...musicy. :D ~Kylu (u|t) 17:58, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Kylu,
I'm interested in being involved in the MC, but to be honest the Note to aspiring cabalists on the project page actually doesn't tell me too much (or am I a dunce?) How do I get involved further? I have already seen an issue (here for one) which I could happily contribute to. Thanks in advance - Glen 15:47, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Kylu. I want to ask you somthing. Since you are now an admin, you can delete pictures and that stuff, right? Could you please delete this image Image:Image-Holynightkmax.jpg? I uploaded it and made a ton of mistakes, and I have been waiting forever to get it out. The article that it would link to has the image uploaded properly, so we don't need to worry about that. I would just like to have this off my back so I can get decent stuff done around here. Thank you and have a nice day.--Chili14(C|@|T) 21:00, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dynamic nav bars
I'm not entirely sure what you are thinking for a testing page. I've done my testing at User:Gimmetrow/sand. At the moment my code is looking for a different type of navbox, because in the process of testing I had to break one of the behaviours of the "standard" navbox that appears to be necessary for some templates. An additional version seems safer; a replacement version would probably require extensive testing to avoid breaking those templates. My current code may possibly appear faster simply because no other pages have the navbox it is looking for. Gimmetrow 22:21, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ahm, well, yes... I kinda was using the old example code from MediaWiki talk:monobook.js so that might be why it was so much faster. Just pretend you didn't notice, okay? Thanks. c.c;; ~Kylu (u|t) 23:10, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Well, congratulations Kylu, and all I can say is that I am confident in your ability as an administrator. I'm just rather conservative that's all as you can see by how long I stuck around for Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Blnguyen (everyday I logged on wondering whether someone had dug up some dialogue or not that lead to 20 opposes or something) - and no, I don't expect people to accumulate that many contributions before I support them. All the best, Blnguyen | rant-line 04:12, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your RfA (2)
I wouldn't say that my comment indicated flaws in your contributions. It was just that the specific reasons given in the nominations turned out to be unsubstantiated, and I found no other body of evidence to indicate that you had sufficient experience in administrative matters. This does not mean that I found flaw in your contributions. The only thing I mentioned that you could change is AfD comments: for discussions where the result is already certain, if your comment does not provide new reasoning that could change the outcome, there is no need to make it. This is not so much an error, because it has no practical effect, but you could be making better use of your time—because it has no practical effect. Overall, please don't take my RfA comments as comments on you as a person or a Wikipedia user; they were specifically in regard to whether there was positive evidence that administrator tools ought to be granted. —Centrx→talk • 03:50, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- To be honest, I kinda think that running your own RfA so soon after all the opposition to someone else in theirs might've been a strategic mistake. I just hope it's not enough to cost you yours, since you do seem to be very analytically minded in your decisions. Good luck to you. ~Kylu (u|t) 03:57, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

- I tried to review AfDs which appeared to have the potential to be a CSD (there's a TON of non-notable stuff in there daily, which is easily discoverable, hence my preference for A7), but once I put that much energy into reviewing it, why not just take the extra two seconds to add my *Delete as non-notable ~~~~ to the list? If I did find something that was A7, I could mark it as such and close the AfD early, then people don't have to waste time on it. Now that I've got the flag, I can troll CAT:CSD and do the deletions myself. I didn't just mindlessly go through AfD and tag things as Delete to raise my edit count. Make sense? ~Kylu (u|t) 05:00, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Congrats
Here's your late congrats! Glad you like my userpage layout, hope you don't mind that I stole your adminbar idea. I see that you are considering changing your color scheme. If that's the case I may have to change my RFA vote to Oppose (just kidding, although I now identify you with the color pink). Again congrats, keep up the good work!--Joe Jklin (T C) 05:21, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- P.S. I was curious as to what you user name means. Or is that part of the mystery that is Kylu?
- Y'know, I really have no clue what it means. Once upon a time, I dated this really nice guy who gave it to me as a nickname. I think it's Polish, but I don't speak Polish and honestly have no clue what it means. I'm going on the assumption it's not a dirty word, but he was too nice to do that to me really. If you find out, let me know okay? :D ~Kylu (u|t) 05:24, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My RfA thanks
Hello Kylu/Archive 4, and thank you for your support and many nice comments for me at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with an overwhelming final count of (105/2/0). I was very pleased with the outpouring of kind words from the community that has now entrusted me with these tools, from the classroom, the lesson in human psychology and the international resource known as Wikipedia. The Free Encyclopedia. Please feel free to leave me plenty of requests, monitor my actions (through the admin desk on my userpage) and, if you find yourself in the mood, listen to some of what I do in real life (my music ;-) In any case, keep up the great work and have a fabulous day. [edit] Re:woman's touch
Hi Kylu - please see Where's talkpage where I clarify my comment. Yes I did jab at the fact that we have very few lady admins, and my comment above was only poking fun at the misunderstanding between me and Where. I've got a strong vein of pawky humor in me and could definitely use a woman's touch meself... Anywayz, don't let this bother you much longer. This Fire Burns Always 06:04, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- Speaking of a woman's touch, I'm not going to touch that line with a ten foot pole! Yikes! Oddly enough, Ze Sekrit Admin Cabal was just talking about the very subject of sexual and ethnic diversity in the admin population. Go figure. I don't have any problem with what you said, personally, but can see where someone else might! Be careful. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 06:10, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

-
- Tdxiang: xie xie. I figure, as long as whoever decides to try is looking for the right reasons, they're welcome to it. The only problem I can see anymore is that while adminship is No Big Deal, RfA seems to get to be a Bigger Deal with every passing day. Check out the number of opinions voiced in any given RfA and compare to six months or a year ago: I'm predicting that in a short amount of time, RfA will hit a wall and have to be revamped simply due to the number of potentially good admins who never get a chance because they're not perfect. :( Well, we'll see.
- Sir Nick: I intend to remember that for myself, but I'm a bit more lenient when it comes to others. I'll try to not lose my head over all this +sysop stuff...oh, wait, sorry there! :D
- Guinnog: Ack, sorry, I meant to rubber-stamp your talkpage with annoying pink, sorry! I'll do that right away. Clickity clack. There, now you've been spammed.
