[edit] Sockpuppet
Uh, I was going down General Eisenhower's talk page, and I saw that you were speculating that I was a sockpuppet of GeorgeMoney! Ha! XD In what way am I similar to GeorgeMoney? God, I wish I'd seen this before. This is so much fun. Oh, yeah, sorry to bring this up, I know it happend a while ago, but...y'know. It's very interesting. Sergeant Snopake 15:35, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

- I'm so sorry, that was someone else's comment! It was just under yours, and I thought you'd just put it there as an after thought. The actual comment owner had signed their name underneath, but I was just so het up about people thinking I was a sock puppet, I just didn't notice. Bet I look like a freak now, huh? Sorry. Sergeant Snopake 16:22, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- :D It's okay, kinda think of it as a {{tl|test-self} "You fixed your own mistake" kinda thing. I don't mind, personally, and am glad it happened with me instead of someone who'd take offense and beat you over the head with it! (Some people on here, from what I've seen, might literally beat someone over the head...) Have a wonderful day!

Per your comment on the Copyright Problems page - song lyrics are not covered by fair use, and should not be used on Wikipedia. A line or two is probably OK, but definitely not a whole song. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 21:31, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

- I remember the gist of an old saying about being online, back from my BBS days:
- "Computers are a great equalizer. Online communities, in general, don't care if you're rich or poor,

[edit] Grateful for demonstrated support of science for the good of global humanity
Dear Kylu,
Thank you! Its my daughter's birthday today, and I get a birthday gift(the userbox)! Its beautiful! Nice image too!
Such unexpected help and support reinforce my faith in the open source movement in general and Wikipedia in particular. A new slogan for Wikipedia,
- good people to contribute with.
///I am adding your name to our project. No, you are NOT expected to do anything at all in return. You've done quite a lot already. Consider it a recognition of your tacit support. You can however do as much as you wish./// now redundant. Talk of dropping a brick! Sorry :(.
A question. Can I change the image later on to moth from butterfly if I want?
Thanks once again AshLin 03:16, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I think I'm already listed on there, I've still got fifty zillion butterfly families to add headers to. o.o;;
- Anywho, if you'd like to change the userbox, just click on the link in {{user WPLepidoptera}} and click "Edit". Everything you could possibly want to change is right there! Just make sure you preview first, or you'll mess up everyone's page that's using it! :D
- One thing I'd avoid changing, though, would be the size of the userbox. Some people (uh, like me) have a LOT of userboxes all put together, and when you start changing sizes they get broken apart. My problem, I realize, but it'd be nice to let that one thing stay stable!
- If you'd rather not do the editing, just point me to the picture you'd like, tell me what colors you want to use (this is a good link to pick colors, by the way) and any other changes, and I'll do them for you if you want!
[edit] Woodbridge, CT
Hi Kylu,
With due respect... but why are you & Rlevse reverting my edits? I have in Woodbridge, CT for a long time, and have made good faith effort to improve the page. I have not vandelized it. Are you and Rlevse some kind of super-wikipedians or something? I said 'vandelism' because I thought my orginal edits from May 17th were valid. What is your interest in Woodbridge? Do you have some special knowledge of it? I got your message, and hope you get this. Still new at this, so if you respond, I hope I can find it somehow.

[edit] Thanks Kylu
Hi Kylu,
Thanks for your polite tone & comments (and for not automatically reverting my edit this time.) I hope to get back to you soon with some better explanation of the edits - which I believe are legitimate. I'll consider your advice about username, but I really never anticipated being a frequent contributer, and didn't want to hassle with learning all the ins & outs of wikipedia, though it is one of my favorite sites to visit. (I'm impressed also with your fast responses!)
Thanks again, ell
- No problem. I'm still going to encourage you to register, though! :D ~Kylu (u|t) 04:52, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Softened the pink a bit?
I noticed you softened the pink of your userpage . Are you feeling alright? Your the pinkest user I've met. But seriously, your userpage looks great and your recent gnomish editing [1] is impressive and appreciated. Keep up the good work! :)--Joe Jklin (T C) 16:18, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Mmm, I've always gotten the, "Wow, that's PINK" reaction to my userpage, which made me think that maybe other people didn't like it very much. I happen to like the style, but it's not really there for me per se. Thanks for saying you like the page!
- As far as editing goes, I've noticed there's a lot of "little" maintainance jobs people don't do very much of. It's not as "sexy" as getting an article to FA or anything, but really it needs to be done. I've cleared the ISBN-needed category (easy!) and put a dent into ISSN-needed (maybe took out a third of that category, more to come!) and am doing the misplaced talkpage templates mostly as a change of pace.
- I'd like to correct the WikiProject pages that have their custom talk template on the main page (as example)... I figure I could <noinclude> them or put them on a talk page (like mine), {{subst}} them, then copy the code back to the project page, that way the "this is on the wrong page" notice on the talk template is gone and it wouldn't show up in the category.
- Catch is, I'll have to save those for last: They've got a prominent "do not edit this" in the section that hosts the talkpage template on the project page, so I'll want to leave a note with that WikiProject and ask them for permission to do so. I'd rather make those changes boldly, since they may have another reason for doing so. If there is, I figure a notice (bold, in red, to make it noticable) in the category page to tell future category-sweepers to not touch those pages would work.
- Thank you for noticing, by the way! :D

Hey Kylu. How is it going? Who are you? Where are you from? -Adam Soczewko -May 2006 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Adam34 (talk • contribs) .
- Hey Adam! Nice ta meetcha. Just so you know, when you leave a note, make sure you sign it with four tildes (~~~~), it'll auto-stamp your signature, date, and time! Handy, huh?
- Anyway, it's going pretty well, I'm getting ready to head into work since there's a performance expected of me this afternoon. :D
- I'm from Indianapolis, Indiana and as far as "Who am I?" I leave that as a mystery for others! Check my userpage, though, for a number of hints!

If you know of a way, though, please tell me! :) ~Kylu (u|t) 06:21, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Language Ability Categories
I noticed on some user pages boxes saying things like "en-3 -- These users are able to contribute with an advanced level of English." indicating a certain level of English language proficiency. But on the link above, it only gives a list of users who have that level, and not a description of what it means, how one acquires it, or even how to add it to my own user page (or if that is indeed what I should/could be doing).
This being Wikipedia, I'd add the info to the page myself, if I only knew what that info was; however, I don't. Any enlightenment or relevant links I may have overlooked would be appreciated.
Thanks for making me feel welcome! Quaxanta 02:35, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Glad you signed up for medcab! I'm really sorry I couldn't talk with you on IRC at the time you contacted me. Do you want to just grab a case or discuss something or...? Also what is your connection with Kim? jbolden1517Talk 02:57, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm helping Keitei with her case at the moment, acting as assistant. As far as Kim goes, she, Keitei, and I are all part of the same other Cabal. Y'know, the big evil dark one that threatens the known world. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 02:59, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- is Kim a she? I figured from the name he/she was but the people on IRC told me Kim was a he.... ? jbolden1517Talk 11:23, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

-
- *Smacks self in the forehead* Actually, yesh, Kim's a he. I think I've got a vitamin deficiency or something. There are a couple Wikipedians who, for some unknown reason, the wrong gender keeps creeping into my head when I see their names. No offense was meant to Kim (to whom I apologize! Please don't kill me, Sir!).
- Ahwell. I suck. Anywho, I'm fine with the whole MedCab thing. I've been wanting to try my hand at mediation for a while, actually, though I think I may've gotten off to a bit of a rocky start on this first case. I suppose, when I manage to improve my mediation technique, a start like that just makes it look like I've improved that much more, right? :D
- I'll be honest, my usual technique for problem solving usually involves more authority. Think: "Hello! Please be nice to the other users, or else I'll have to remove you, and that would make me unhappy. :(" Offline, I typically try to distance myself from disputes, not try to mediate them, hence my interest here. (That and Keitei and Kim seemed to suggest that MedCab needed some help possibly.)
- Interestingly, I think this style of mediation may very well work in some cases where others (MedCom and ArbCom) might not, simply because of the lack of binding authority. Since it's apparently the last step before authority-bearing measures are produced, this actually IMHO makes MedCab rather important: It's the last chance for a dispute to be resolved before a resolution is brought to those concerned.

- I see you've set up your homepage to hide sections by default, but allowing them to be viewed. I'd like to know how to do that, seeing as my own page is a bit unruly - well I did get carried away with userboxes! :-) Autarch 19:10, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, check the code in User:Kylu/main: The <div> tags are the trick. Quite honestly, I blatantly stole that trick from User:Master of Puppets's userpage. While I _was_ doing something similar beforehand, it was based on {{hidden}} and it looked...well...ugly. The <div> method is much much prettier, imho! BTW, if you want to see how the page is laid out, check out my userpage map first. Lets you know where all the funky stuff is. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 02:05, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My Edits to your Userpage
I want to apologize for the minor bug I created when fixing the [Show]/[Hide] size bug, as I'd forgotten that changing font sizes in the div class tags affected the text that followed. By forcing the blocks containing the [Show]/[Hide] links to have a font size of 75%, I inadvertantly forced the content text that followed to be 75% its standard size. (An example of the issue in action can be seen here, by expanding the "About Kylu" section. I had noticed that the infobox with Wikipe-tan became obscured by the next frame heading due to the decreased font size of the text in the sections.) Anyways, I went back and added forced font sizes for the content to be 133% (75% * 133% = 100%). Sorry for the inconvenience! --InvaderJim42 01:48, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Conservatism
Thank you for stepping in to arbitrate the dispute on the conservatism page. You have closed the case, but I am just back from my 24 hour block, so this is my first chance to speak to you about the subject.
You wrote, "Discussion attempted to take place on the article talk page but failed, due to misunderstanding of where the conversation was to take place." I'm not sure I understand. The conversation took place on Talk: Conservatism and has gone on now for more than a month now. I have edited more than 100 articles on Wikipedia, and have never had a problem like this one before. ER MD, whose blanking I reverted, has blanked contributions to the Conservatism page more than fifty times in the past month, and refuses to discuss or to compromise. If he does not agree with it, he blanks it. For example, he has blanked quotations from Plato, from Livy, from Benjamin Disraeli, and from Napoleon, all without giving any reason other than POV and OR.
I really think we need a third party to read the disputed "Criticism of Conservatism" section and express an opinion as to whether or not it meets Wikipedia standards. Rick Norwood 06:42, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- (Replied to on Mr. Norwood's talkpage) Case has been re-opened and annotated to note that there is also a Request for comment currently open regarding the debate. While I am pleased to serve as mediator, it would be even nicer if the dispute can be solved without needing mediation. ~Kylu (u|t) 22:57, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] But grandfather, why did your clock drown in the lake of tar!?
(On this day, a new section on the talk page was born..born of the ash and of the dust. Because the conversation at hand strayed so far from the original topic, that a new section was in dire need. And thus, it was so, and it was created, this new section was.)

- Hmmmm, this cookie, it is of fine origin. No? If so, then yes. And in return, I give you this...

(Stopped indenting, since it looks icky.) If you have two "single" user boxes, and one was removed, that would mean that you are both single and in a relationship. But no matter, telescopes look at the stars, just as mirrors are portals to the parralel worlds. I have, in my stuperous rage and laughterous revelry, evoked a mere interest in your doings, not nessicarily a strong passion as the word "love" is often correlated as... using coral. Ah, but I am being terse, and should most definetely stop this rambling. Due to this shortness in my words, and of the incessant spewing forth of entirely too many syllables, I will move to an entirely different subject (as indicated by this paragraph break.)
I'm trying very hard to be useful, but I can't seem to find anything that makes a unique contributor. Sure, I can scan over vandalism, and keep a cool head in intense debates of intense tomfoolery, but I really don't feel that I've found my "niche". Do you have any words of enlightenment on this tantalizing perdicament(sp?). Signed by the most excellent candlestick-maker of the lands, grand hyedrule-erik of the seven woad-berries, with the most sincerest of intentions, The Prophet Wizard of the Crayon Cake {Prophesize) 05:51, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- You have no idea how hard it is for me to find a niche somewhere. I've done Kindness Campaign, Welcoming committee, AfD activism, RC Patrol... I drag around in Wikipedia maintenance a bit, there's always things like ISSN-needed and ISBN-needed, I'm in the Mediation Cabal, and am rather active on chat, I do various anti-vandalism things, do article spellchecking and have lately taken up some light stub sorting in case all that fails to amuse me. I have yet to find my niche, and so far seem terribly interested in the "backroom" of Wikipedia, trying to discover how the place all works.
- Of course, when you do that, you end up being a "volunteer" to take on more work, though they have yet to assign me anything that's too much to handle really.
- I imagine one of these days I'll poke too far in and they'll try to do something silly, like give me real responsibility or something, but until that dark day, I'm just really flitting about doing random odd jobs. I suppose, as long as it needs doing, it doesn't really matter who does it, right?
- I'll leave the nifty "opentasks" template on your talkpage to give you things to do if you get bored, but... ultimately, I think my "niche" has become "all of Wikipedia" really. C'est la vie.
- ~Kylu (u|t) 01:49, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Mmmmm, that was a delicious bit of text, as it summed exactly what I'm doing. I really can't "add" anything huge to Wikipedia. so all I do is move things, reword things, and talk about things. So I'll probably be doing the exact same thing you do. :D. The only thing I'm really good at is music... so maybe I could record "examples" of different music-related stuff for articles. Eh, otherwise I'll just stick to conflict resolution. It's basket-loads of fun. I'm glad I've encountered your person, as you seem to be similar in breadth and volume as my person. -- The Prophet Wizard of the Crayon Cake {Prophesize) 05:00, 18 June 2006 (UTC) (By the way, once I figure out how to access IRC, I'll check out this mysterious chat you speak of.)

--José Roberto A. JR. 21:41, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'd be willing to bet that the differences are far more cultural than they are linguistic. There are going to be back-room structures that are simply different from one wiki to another, depending on the host culture. Interestingly enough, this gives you an opportunity to study other cultures through the social structures they develop to manage projects like these!

[edit] David Rowell deletion
I note at the top of this page you say deletions are nothing to do with you and that you are not an administrator, so I am baffled as to why you replied to my query about this page's deletion. Maybe you can point me to the AfD/discussion page where this article was deleted. I thought that when I left my message it was on the Talk Page of the person who deleted. [edit] RfA thanks!
Thanks for voting! Hello Kylu/Archive 3, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care. |

- Take care and keep up the good work! ~Kylu (u|t) 23:01, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] tent city
What is Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-06-19 Tent City and Tent City 4(King County, Washington) about? jbolden1517Talk 02:53, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- I finished creating the page that user Cyclopedic started, apparently in relation to Talk:Tent City#Tent City 4 and Talk:Tent City 4 (King County, Washington) simply as an unrelated act of kindness. :)
- From what I can tell, Cyclopedic beleives that actions by Coz 11 (Coz) are violating WP:NPOV.
- I think the first thing any accepting mediator will need to do is to talk to the parties in question and determine the actual specifics of the case. User:Bobblehead has apparently already posted to the talkpage of both users and is apparently acting as a sort of mediator already.
- You may want to ask Bobblehead if they'd like to use our MedCab case page to host a discussion between all involved and to simply tell us when the case may be archived. Consider it proof that we're not stick-in-the-muds. :D
- Of course, I'd prefer that they resolve as early as possible, preferably without requiring mediation. Makes our lives more boring, but makes theirs more pleasant!
- Hope that helps! ~Kylu (u|t) 03:09, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Banu Nadir mediation
Thanks for your help with mediation.
About Pschemp: I just want to say that according to Wikipedia:Edit war, an edit war involves reverting which is not being discussed. The fact, obvious from Talk:Banu Nadir, is that the changes to Banu Nadir (and the sections of Banu Qaynuqa which were being reverted) were being discussed. I don't think calling what was happening an "edit war" is fair to either side of the debate.
Sadly, I it looks to me as if the anti-Islamists might not participate in mediation. They are in a tough spot because their sources don't support the subjective descriptions of states of mind (e.g. Muhammad "felt" so-and-so...) and they certainly don't support the factual inaccuracies in their version (e.g. that the Constitution of Medina was "promulgated" instead of voluntarily signed on to.) But so far they have the support of two admins, including an arbitrator, who both happen to be a member of the Judiaism WikiProject. However, I will be giving mediation plenty of time and effort -- I have already posed more than a dozen mediation questions with a convienient grid for the anti-Islamists to answer in. It's been almost a day now and none of them have touched it.
Anyway, I just want you to know that "edit war" is not what was going on on those pages. This is a bias dispute with far-flung accusations of racisim coming from the currently dominant side, and probably racial motivations on both sides (not me, though, I'm an agnostic from a WASP background who has never edited anything about Jews or Muslims ever before.) Publicola 04:33, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, when it says "without being discussed" it does refer to the discussions taking place between opposite sides of the debate, as well as some sort of consensus being reached in regards to the content. If, for instance, Pschemp and I were to write an article, then you changed it, we changed it back, etc., however Pschemp and I agreed and you did not, it would still be considered edit warring. The actual verbiage of the term does not matter, it's the spirit that I'm worried about. (That's the spirit behind Ignore All Rules by the way.) Don't let someone rules-lawyer you into a corner, Publicola, just try to do what's right and obeys the spirit of the rules. :)
- I've reviewed the case (personally) and feel that the admins in question were in the right to lock the articles. Once your mediation is completed and both sides of the debate are in agreement, then please contact your mediator and they can inform the admin in question so the article may be unprotected and productive work can continue. Thanks!
- ~Kylu (u|t) 04:42, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

As far as your archives, I haven't moved or deleted anything of yours. In fact, it's not possible for me to delete anything of yours as I'm not an admin (see top of my talk page). I'll reply here and copy to your talk page as you seem to be blocked for vandalism for a period of 1 day.] I'm afraid you are factually incorrect on these issues. ~Kylu (u|t) 22:39, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portal namespace in Sinhala Wikipedia
Hi Kylu, I'm Lee from Sinhala wikipedia. We need the namespace Portal in Sinhala wikipedia; but I’m not sure how to get it. Please help me with the issue or redirect me to a person who can guide me. Thanks in advance. --Rathne 11:33, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ayep, I just checked and it looks like you're absolutely right. Let me see what I can find out for ya. ~Kylu (u|t) 01:16, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I've put in a feature request for you, asking for the creation of the Portal: and Portal talk: to be added to si.wikipedia.org. Please note that "soon" (current ETA: Later next month) they may be creating the Namespace Manager which will allow bureaucrats for the Wikipedia in question to create and delete namespaces without requiring assistance. Sorry my response took so long! ~Kylu (u|t) 01:39, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

- Kool! I guess all I have to do now is wait for it to be implemented. :-) Thanx for the support. --Rathne 09:11, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

-
- I've read si:Wikipedia:කෝපි කඩේ and notice that there's a little confusion as to how you want the namespace spelled. Do you want "Portal" and "Portal talk" in English, or do you want it in Sinhala? Which spelling? ~Kylu (u|t) 22:28, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- The English wording would be just fine. We haven't reached a conclusion yet on the correct Sinhala word for "Portal" (to be used in the wikipedia). So I've informed the others that we'll use the English word for now; and that makes perfect since most of the interface related things are not yet translated in to Sinhala anyway. - Check out this javascript please. Seems to work fine, doesn't interfere with any of the kazillion js's I've got loaded. :D ~Kylu (u|t) 03:53, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Not sure if this ever went anywhere, I added the javalink to my local settings, and have found it useful, if you haven't already, I'd start on talk section up on it in the approriate MediaWiki:*.js section, and link to it from WP:VPT. Let me know if you do. (Sorry I took so long looking at this!) — xaosflux Talk 22:06, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- Will work on this. Sadly, at the moment, I'm stuck in a bit of a mess involving MedCab and such, but I will bring it up on VPT at the very least. After looking at the scripting and then the various .js's, it looks only appropriate for MediaWiki:monobook.js.
- Hey, if you happen to check out this reply, mind taking a peek at WP:OVER (aka Wikipedia:Oversight) also? I've had a couple +oversight users look at it, and it appears accurate and useful so far, but the more opinions the better. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 06:18, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

- eh?...turtle-goat? Anywho, you don't seem to be using an overabundance of pink, so I can only assume you're talking about the (u|t) thing. I figured it was the most efficient way of embedding those links in my sig, getting to keep the pink name, and still not confusing the heck out of people. mmmmmmm, if you put the font tag in the visual part of the link like so:
<b><i>[[User:Kylu|<font color="#FF00FF">~Kylu</font>]] <font color="#FF00FF">([[User talk:Kylu|<font color="#FF00FF">t</font>]])</font></i></b>
Then the HTML will override the default link color, thus producing: ~Kylu (t)
or, as my own suggestion, you could put contribs, a nowiki'ed pipe (to prevent interference with wiki syntax involving your sig), and a nifty superscript tag, thus producing: ~Kylu (t |c)

(Whew, that took some triky use of nowiki to recreate in code form :P)

I meant that I was going to ask Pschemp,to unprotect the page, only when the case is resolved. I believe that keeping the page protected until resolution is the best course of action. Sorry for any inconvenience. Geo. 19:34, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- No inconvenience, it's just that some new mediators aren't familiar with mediating within constraints. For instance, a mediator between the US and Canada can't simply give Canada some land in India that neither side has claim to, nor can we as mediators demand that an admin reverse an administrative action as part of mediation. We're just here to help the two sides of the dispute come to terms with eachother and try to compromise a way to a solution. Sounds textbook, doesn't it? ~Kylu (u|t) 01:23, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Kylu, When clicking on you're block log you made a mistake. When you created a link you put you're name after User:. Sadly, putting it after User: doesn't work. For you're real block log here is the [link.]
RainbowSprinkles Talk [Contributions] [Email me] 19:11, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Which location is it that we're talking about? The block log at the top of this page is a list of blocks that I've performed (and therefore should be blank, since that's the point). The link you provide is correct, however, to see my sole block and unblock (If you're interested, the reason I was blocked is due to the fact that, during vandalcorrection, I managed somehow to revert to a vandalized version of a page. Whoops. CURPS auto-blocked me, and Shanel unblocked me since it was an obvious mistake. I use a couple scripts that are designed to prevent this from happening, so I'm not sure why it is this happens on occasion, especially when I make sure I'm reverting to the correct version... go figure.)
- By the way, while we're doing corrections, you might want to try this:
- You don't really need the rest of the URL when linking to Special: pages, plus this removes the outside link icon.

- I was under the impression that Uncyclopedia was for Wikipedians who want to blow off steam and get away from things? Alternatively, there's WP:BJAODN if you want to relax and read something nonserious. The articles and most of the goings on, though, are imho quite serious and deservedly so. OTOH, it doesn't mean you can't try to enjoy yourself while editing, just not at the expense of reader-facing pages. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 00:45, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Hehe, of course we'd do more than act silly, but we'd use silliness as a way to accomplish stuff in an unstressed environment. Basically it serves as a hub to organize effort quickly, since the group would have no purpose other than what is currently specified.. you can pretty much chart up new objectives without worrying about them being "in the realm of this group". If you don't know your purpose, then you can have any purpose you want at any time. Flexibility. Plus I'd be fun. :) -- The Prophet Wizard of the Crayon Cake 00:59, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Arthur K. Shapiro stub
Hi, Kylu ... thanks for the stub sort on Arthur K. Shapiro. I wish I knew how to find stub sorting categories. I don't think listing him as a psychologist works, though ... is there a stub just for general physicians? That might work better. This stone is a gateway to higher, immortal enlightenment and the key to increasing your magical powers as a magician. But be warned, the goat cheese is a tempting treat to consume... should you consume it, then it will cease to give you immortal powers. [edit] Mediation Case: Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-06-13 Conservatism
I'm scanning through the conservatism case so I can help out on it. Anything you might want to mention to me? -- The Prophet Wizard of the Crayon Cake 00:35, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've refactored this a bit. It doesn't really belong with "Re: Congrats!" Hope you don't mind.
- Well, okay. Firstly, Cowman's already helping out, so no trampling over eachother, though I personally like seeing group assistance like this. The major issue seems to be the inclusion of a "Criticism of Conservatism" section on the page. User:Rick Norwood feels it has a place while the major opponent, User:Beneaththelandslide (signs as "michael") feels there is no place at all, and neither side seems to be interested in negotiating away from this point. It really seems to hinge on an interpretation of WP:NPOV, where Rick feels that all points of view should be expressed in order to show NPOV, whereas Michael seems to think the exact opposite: that criticism sections are inherently POV and should not be allowed in articles at all. I proposed moving the criticism into a seperate article (as did Cowman109), and Michael dislikes this suggestion, stating that it would still not be NPOV and therefore a policy violation.
- Quite honestly, I'm stumped. Both sides seem to be unwilling to compromise and find middle ground, and I fear that the case might end up in Arbitration, where as you know neither party will likely end up being happy with the outcome. We need to find a solution that actually solves the issue and doesn't simply state "party such-and-such will not edit said article" or rely on enforcement, otherwise we're simply stalling the issue and not actually mediating things.
- Offline, I've been thinking about it a bit and trying to come up with different methods of compromise that will manage to sate both parties while still being true to both the word and principles of Wikipedia policies. I'm tempted to WP:IAR and tell them to make the criticism article seperately and just hope that it evolves into an article about criticism of convervatism, but it feels a bit much a bit too soon.
- So, I've asked for help from the community on the talkpage for conservatism and on the RfC hoping that Wikipedians will come to my rescue with some genius stroke that will solve this issue. Basically, I'm trusting in the idea of Nemo Solis Sapit (L., "None is wise alone"), trusting that the community will show wisdom where I alone can't find it. ~Kylu (u|t) 01:13, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ewwww, criss-crossing NPOV interpretations are always a big sticky messy... since it's such a huge policy, both parties feel the need to vigorously uphold it. hmmmm, obviously attempting to persuade them won't do any good. ER... I'm trying to think of a way we could change the article by being bold, and then talking about it, basically applying The BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, but it doesn't seem to apply to this situation too well. One wants it included, and one wants it deleted, so changing the article a little won't do a bit of good... hmmm... we might just have to get a little dirty if we want to fix this... something - dare I say - manipulative? (I hope no one is reading this conversaion....) Might be best to talk about it over IRC, where *ahem* no one is logging our conversation. --The Prophet Wizard of the Crayon Cake 03:32, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

- *laugh* We might even want to remove that statement altogether. You totally have my permission. :-) --The Prophet Wizard of the Crayon Cake 03:34, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

- You know, I'll be honest with ya, I'm absolutely new at this mediation thing and I don't know all the tricks of the trade, but for some reason I don't think "being manipulative" is one of them. As far as removing the statement, I'd have to note that it'd stay in my page history and since I'm pretty familiar with Wikipedia:Oversight (in fact, I wrote it) I'm kinda sure that it's not covered under acceptable use. :)
- Anywho, for the moment, I'll take the naive approach of being honest with the parties I'm trying to assist. I know, it's off the wall and unexpected, but hey, that's just like me to be off the wall and unexpected, right? :D ~Kylu (u|t) 06:37, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question about Notability, Verifiable info
Hey, thanks for the welcome message! You said to ask you if I had any questions, so here goes.
- I recently found that my school has an entry in Wikipedia. The article is short, with a decent intro, but the specific details are just kind of random, not very broad or informative. My question is this: can I expand the page (as an "expert"), with the idea that some data is better than no data-- or should I leave it, until someone who carries around verifiable sources (newspaper articles, maybe?) comes along?
- Wikipedia has entries on several webcomics, as well as the concept itself, but not one of my personal favorites. As I understand it, Wikipedia is not just a general-purpose encyclopedia, but also a collection of more specialized encyclopedias (hence the number of detailed articles on individual species of plants, computer terminology, philosophy, etc.) On the other hand, I've heard complaints from people who say WP is becoming cluttered with trivia, and there are rules (guidelines?) about notability. So, should I go ahead and write the page (I consider it significant-- it's about the second webcomic I ever heard of), or leave off, because it's not notable and would just get deleted anyway? --Zatchmort 21:12, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- There's no problem with your expanding the page on your school and in fact we welcome you to do so! So, saying that, there's the catches. When you go to edit an article, it says (right below the edit box, actually) Content must not violate any copyright and must be based on verifiable sources.
- There's important stuff here: Wikipedia:Citing sources and Wikipedia:Verifiability are directly named. If I put "The house at 10292 on my block is owned by a family of five and the head of household is a Politician", it may well be truth, but if it's not verifiable, reliable source then the information needn't be included. Ideas though: Does your school paper have a website? How about the PTA or School Board? I bet there are more citable sources than you think there are. :)
- As far as your webcomic goes, I have a funny way of determining notability on something "Iffy" like that. First, google the thing and see if there are a lot of mentions on sites other than the comic. Typically at around 500 hits, I start thinking the content is 'pedia-worthy. That's like asking how you vote on an AfD though, really. Check out Wikipedia:Notability (web). If you absolutely can't decide... well, y'know, write the article anyway. Do a good job. If it gets deleted for being non-notable, then your question is answered! :D Seriously though, if it gets deleted for "fails to establish notability" then that's where you really want to focus. Determine if and why the webcomic is notable. Attempt to explain this in the article. Compare to other similar articles.
- Lastly, if the community decides that your contribution doesn't live up to its standards, make sure you don't take it personally. If you have the opportunity, make the article content better. If it's a notability issue and about to be speedy-deleted, put {{holdon}} on the article page and talk it out with the people that feel it's not notable. Network with people, establish dialog, communicate. That's what we're good at. :) Ask if they'll change it from a speedy-delete to a {{prod}} or possibly AfD.
- There's no problem with your expanding the page on your school and in fact we welcome you to do so! So, saying that, there's the catches. When you go to edit an article, it says (right below the edit box, actually) Content must not violate any copyright and must be based on verifiable sources.
- I really hope that helped you a bit. I do mean it, though... if you have questions, just ask me. I love to help! :D ~Kylu (u|t) 21:45, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer. However, the reason I'm not doing manual c+p moves is because it's better to do them via Special:Import (much faster and less error-prone), which is only available to Wiktionary admins. So the best thing to do is just to nag the appropriate people at Wiktionary when the backlog builds up, which is what I will be doing -- once I get back from my Wikibreak. I'll be back in early August. Talk to you then. theProject 00:57, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] T-Man
OK, I will stop reverting, and I retract my legal action threat. Please help me... how do I have another editor (T-Man) remove defamatory discussions of my from his page? -- Dyslexic agnostic 07:48, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
You should notice, I had previously twice as much gathering of evidence against DA in my talk page. I recently reduced it and modified the tone to keep it more serious. Check the evidence links and read the info to realize who is the "bad" guy. I just learn burning a stalker is a long process, present the evidence requires gathering a massive amount of links, since most wikistalkers tend to act ambiguos to looc like if they were acting in good faith.--T-man, the wise 07:53, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- I have acted in good faith, it was T-Man and not me that received a ban (and then several more) as a result of his actions, and his talk page comments are well beyond an obsession with me. -- Dyslexic agnostic 08:07, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- I'll be honest: It's not so much the conflict and such that bothered me as much as it is the "legaleese" that accompanied it. Once legal threats have been made, the person making them has to deal with the consequences. I'd encourage you to seek dispute resolution in Wikipedia first. If you'd like assistance with this, I'm a member of the Mediation Cabal and can assist in helping you find a peaceful solution. ~Kylu (u|t) 14:55, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
