Talk:KY-3
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The "AN/" designation was never applied to security equipment. NSA designation for cryptosystems they spec and contract for is universal for the three military services. There is no such designation as "AN/TSEC-KY3". The article is correct in stating that "AN/" refers to "Army-Navy" as the intended service applications, although many equipments prefixed "AN/" are also used by the Air Force.
The proper designation for crypto security equipment is simply "TSEC/Kx-yy". Ancillary gear associated with a cryptosystem, such as remotes, handsets, etc. would carry as an example "C-1134/TSEC", indicating they were not confidential crypto devices in themselves, but were used in support of the overall system.
I would rather a professional editor or wiki staff verify this information and provide the edit rather than doing so myself.
