[edit] History

Founded by Erlo Stegen (born 1935 near Durban) was active as a missionary among the Zulu population of Natal from 1954. In 1966/67, Stegen's efforts culminated in triggering mass conversions, accompanied with glossolalia and miraculous healings. In 1971, based in a Natal village called Kwa Sizabantu (Zulu for "place of help for people") which became the movement's eponym.

On 12 August 2006 KwaSizabantu Mission officially opened the Emseni Care Center (meaning "place of grace"). The first stage of the complex has been completed and can accommodate about 20 HIV/Aids patients as well as full-time staff. The KwaSizabantu Mission also houses the water factory aQuellé as well as several other non-profit initiatives including Christians for Truth.

The director of the KwaSizabantu Mission in Kranskop, the Reverend Erlo Hartwig Stegen, was named co-recipient of a major international award — the Robert W. Pierce Award for Christian Service — by World Vision International on 9 Dec 2007.[2][3]

[edit] Criticism

Because of the reported miracles in the events that led to the mission's establishment, there has been some debate about the classification of the movement relative to charismatic currents. The movement today does not emphasize glossolalia, and Stegen's theology keeps an ideological distance both from charismatic Evangelicalism and from cessationist Protestantism.

Former members, running the critical website ksb-alert.com, talk of "extremely hurtful personal experiences", "dubious and disreputable practices" and "disregard human dignity" within the mission. They allege that the "Domino Servite" schools engaged in corporal punishment and tested female students' virginity after holidays.

To be seen critical are the 'miracle healings' by Erlo Stegen, in which he lies his hand on people who are loaded from occultism and with that needles and frogs leave theit body.(http.www.Schriftenmission - Rundbrief 2005) There are clearly no references to that in the Bible, where Jesus or his disciples are healing in any form like that. (Dr.Lademann-Priemer, Doktorarbeit 1988 Nordelbische Kirche) - -However in the Zulu culture this is a sign of a white magician. As well as reports about apparent AIDS healings on KSB.
