Kvernes

Kvernes is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway.
It was created in 1837 as Kvernes formannskapsdistrikt. According to the 1835 census the municipality once had a population of 3,754.
On 1 September 1893 parts of Kvernes, Frei and Øre were used to create the new municipality Gjemnes. On 1 January 1897 Kvernes was split in four to create three new municipalities Eide, Kornstad and Bremsnes. The remaining part of Kvernes had a population of 857.
On 1 January 1965 Kvernes was merged with most of Kornstad and Bremsnes to create the new municipality Averøy. Prior to the merger Kvernes had a population of 693.
