Kuvempu University is a state university in Shivamogga, Karnataka, India.

Kuvempu University was established on 29 June 1987.The Kuvempu university has its headquarters at Shivamogga. Its campus is called Jnana Sahyadri, which means The Sahyadri of knowledge, quite aptly as university has jurisdiction over malnad districts of Shivamogga and Chikmagalur, through which the mountain ranges called the Sahyadri pass. It also covers districts of Davangere and Chitradurga.The university is named after Kuvempu a renowned poet in Kannada. He was native of Shivamogga district and also vice-chancellor of University of Mysore. It offers postgraduate courses and research programmes (Phd )in faculty of art, commerce and science. There are many colleges affiliated to this university offering undergraduate courses in above mentioned faculties. Kuvempu's son-in-law Prof. K. Chidananda Gowda is a former Vice-Chancellor of this University. Prof.B.S. Sherigara is present Vice-Chancellor.
