Kathwal is one of the 51 Union Councils of Abbottabad District in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan [3]. It is located to the north west of Abbottabad city (the district capital).

The main villages of this Union Council are Kuthwal, Bandi Mansoor, Gali Banian, Chatry Balla, Dunna Sharif, Maira Rehmat Khan Mohra Kalan, Charti and Kuthwal.This union council is Gateway to thandyani pass. The first village enroute is Gali Benyan which actually consist of two villages i.e Gali and Benyan.Main tribe is AWAN with small number of Syyeds,sardars and Abbasis.Two link roads lead from Gali, one goes to Benyan and other to Danna Sharif.Danna Sharif is known by the spirtual personality of the Area ie Syyed Iqbal Hussain Shah.The village Gali is famous for it First Jamia mosque of the area and it's madrasa for boys and girls saprately, which was named as Jamia Hanfia Razvia by its founder Haji Mir afzal (Late) who is also known as Sir Syyed of the area. Then comes the Bandi Mansoor which consist of mughals, Awans and small number of other tribes.
