Kusunoki Masahide a supporter of the southern dynasty during the Sengoku period (15th century) of Japan. By attempting to restore the southern dynasty, Masahide followed in stealing the imperial regalia during the year of 1443, then fleeing with the southern claimant to the mountains of Yoshino. This is the area in which Masahide held out on site of the Ryusenji temple within Kotochi until the year of 1457.
