Greetings!
My name is Ryan, and it's my pleasure to welcome you, Kuru/archive-1, to Wikipedia! First of all, I'd like to thank you for joining the project, and contributing to articles and discussion. I hope you can continue to take part in Wikipedia, because we need more valuable editors like yourself.

If you are new and need some assistance, here are some great links to check out:

I hope you enjoy editing here, and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, find out where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Before I go, here's one more tip. When you post on talk pages, be sure to sign your name and the date by typing four tildes: [[User:Kuru|<font color = "DarkGoldenrod">'''Kuru'''</font>]] [[User talk:Kuru|<font color = "Goldenrod">''talk''</font>]] 00:08, 2 April 2006 (UTC). That automatically generates your username and the date. Again, welcome, and happy editing!  --King of All the Franks 05:05, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Islam

Hi, I noticed you reverted the article Islam to a vandalised version that replaced {{islam}} with {{terrorism}}. I appreciate the fact that you've been doing a lot of reverts, but please be careful not to make reverts like that accidentally. People may mistake you for a vandal for doing that (I did, and left a vandal warning here at first, but then I checked your contributions and realised it must have been an accident). - ulayiti (talk) 16:26, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

There were two references added to "terrorism" which I was trying to remove, and I apparently crossed paths with another person trying to revert one but not the other. You have my most sincere apologies for this error. Kuru 16:23, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, no, I'm sorry about that. Perhaps I should have assumed good faith and checked your contributions before passing judgement. - ulayiti (talk) 16:28, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

You're welcome. Having nothing on your page is better than having some kind of vandalism on there! Jamyskis Whisper, Contribs Germany 09:38, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Kuri, thanks for catching the vandalism on my user page. Tachyon01 04:24, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Big Spring, Texas

Thanks for helping out with the POV edits. The user reverted it again and got blocked for 3RR. The current revision is the one with the blatant POV, unfortunately. OhNoitsJamieTalk 19:41, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Kuru, RFC has been filed. (Pschemp helped me write it up). Thanks much for your help, OhNoitsJamieTalk 01:16, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind words and the help on the Big Spring, Texas article! Applejuicefool 04:44, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
I have discovered that my account "Happyjoe" is blocked from editing due to some sort of misunderstanding over the Big Spring, TX article. I am not certain who to contact within Wikipedia Technical Support to fix this error. Please remove this block so that I may complete necessary editing on other articles. Thank you for your timely assistance in resolving this problem... Happyjoe 69.145.215.206 03:28, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
I am also not an admin with the capability to undo a block. It would seem that Essjay has left you many warnings (some of which you reverted) and has documented the reasons for his warnings very patiently. Is there something specific that you feel is a mistake? Kuru talk 04:25, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:24.186.222.194

Hi Kuru, he has been at it again, not only on Bedding but also Power tool and Shoe. I have put up a notice on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents asking that he be blocked. Luigizanasi 18:57, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

User:Golbez has dealt with it. See Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:24.186.222.194. He should be blocked now. Luigizanasi 19:48, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Warwick Shool

Hello, I have a vast knoweldge of the history of Warwick School and have many reference books from which i look up my information. If you look at the history of the "Warwick School" page, you will see that I have added 2 paragraphs of information, however, GN Frykman, seems to find it funny to dismiss my hard work as "vandalism". Please contact this user and block him if necessary - he can't simply go around deleting people's hard work. It seems that he has also been very rude to one of the wikipedia moderators. Thanks, Liam

I am never rude. G N Frykman 22:24, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

No probs. However my reflexes are fading, so I'm off to bed. Happy reverting! Cheers TigerShark 01:32, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] thanks for fixing my Russia entry

I had just seen the Russians will the figure skating gold and becuase they showed no emotion i could only assume they and most of the country was of robot origin. I have since looked it up and they are not mostly robots.

[edit] Thanks

I see a lot of work on vandals, thanks. Pavel Vozenilek 14:49, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, vandalism is growing problem. Hopefully, the stable versions feature will get implemented in foreseeable future and that could improve the overall quality and reduce load on the people here. Pavel Vozenilek 10:42, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Texas!

Hey, I see you are a fellow Texan! Texans of the Wikipedia unite! hehe. Great to meet you.  :) pschemp | talk 00:54, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Ditto! Welcome to Wikipedia. Thanks for reverting that random deletion to Texas today. The article does have sort of a jump from the prior paragraph (about the civil war) to the paragraph that was deleted. I was watching to see if the anonymous editor might add something on a subsequent edit, but alas, he/she did not do so, so reverting their deletion was definitely the right thing to do. Johntex\talk 01:22, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:burnbabyburn

At my school, I heard some rumors about Wikipedia's Jeff Chang article. I went to investigate it, and saw that User:Burnbabyburn had vandalised it. This user has also vandalised the Jack London article on Feb.21. (See contributions) His account was apparently created only for vandalism. The vandalism seems to have been deleted by now, but I think you should give him a warning or block him. All names in his edits are names of other students in Hopkins Junior High school in Fremont, California. I know all this because I am a student at the school, but one who wants to help Wikipedia.

[edit] On Deletion of Babble from the Brooks Page

Aha!!! So I noticed you sniffed out my little contribution to the Brooks page... A technical act of vandalism, no doubt, but I hardly thought it was harmful... I was just trying to add some spice to our base's mundane entry - especially since it higlighted some of the real details of daily life here! I mean from reading that junk, one could learn about the relative non-militaristic-ness of this place, how we have a bunch sciency stuff here, and most of all, a bit of an homage to the late legendary programmer Zupko, and the dictatorship he's trying to establish! How do you go wrong there?! Well... Yeah. Obviously, just a joke meant for our eyes. But alas, twas clearly too blatant, and no match for your pervading aura of anti-vandalism. Hopefully he still sees it in the archives, though... Peace brethren, keep up the good fight

-Tony

[edit] Edits

Thanks for the message. While it's in no way my attention to break the rules, I do hope that you also sent 66.82.9.76 a similar message, since he/she is constantly, and violently, reverting my edits well past three times as well. I requested that the page be protected since this user continues to disregard the consensus regarding this issue and keeps changing my edits simply because he/she seems to take personal offense at the story presented. Thanks again. - mixvio 03:56, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism and Graffitti

This might seem insignificant to you, but, I ( as well as graffiti artists and most people acquainted with graffiti art and/or culture) feel that there's a difference between graffiti and vandalism: the former description is usually reserved for intent, like politics or art; the latter is reserved for defacement with no inherent meaning. Under law graffiti is just a subset of vandalism, but I think a distinction should be made since the vast majority of vandalism would not be considered graffiti by the artists themselves (nor by the graffiti community), and the vast majority of graffiti would not be considered mere vandalism by almost anyone except cops and the owners of the property. Anyways, I brought this up to humbly request that you would consider changing "I ... have been actively reverting 'graffiti' ..." to "I ... have been actively reverting 'vandalism' ..." in recognition of this subtle but fundamental difference which so many people draw. Thanks a bunch. Zanturaeon 07:33, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

While I disagree with your position on the societal definition of the word grafitti, my intent was not to offend a segment of the artistic community and I can easily express the thought without that particular noun. I am open to changing the wording on my user page, and will revise and expand the text this weekend. Thanks for the feedback. Kuru talk 23:45, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

please, I am a regular wikipedean, do not block me why have I been warned and of what ???(207.69.137.36 05:07, 16 March 2006 (UTC))

Someone at your IP is currently and actively vandalizing user pages. You can click on the links provided on your talk page to see the vandalizsm in question, and take action to prevent people currently sharing your IP (more than likely someone sharing your connection through a router). Alas, he really hasn't done much to warrant attention. I'll revert the change he made to the high school page, but that's something you can do as well (just click on the history tab, select a previous version of the page, and select "edit this page" - then put in an edit summary explaining why you're reverting the change and save the page). [edit] Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Kuru/archive-1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of KnowledgeOfSelf, JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Cheers! Sango123 (e) 01:28, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

I'd also like to welcome you. Welcome to Esperanza! M o P 03:40, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I Did Not vandalize Civil Liberties

i am not sure how to get intouch with Kuru, but he claimed that I vandalized the Civil Liberties article. I did make a couple articles to promote my website, which were deleted. But I was in no way vandalizing other articles. I have contributed in a positive way to a few articles including Jay-Z and others. However, I am in no way trying to undermind what you guys have going on here. I find it a little ridiculous that my IP address was accused of vandalizing articles.—This unsigned comment was added by 64.80.89.55 (talkcontribs) .

Here is the addition in question: [1]. The edit seems to quite clearly be vandalism, I'm sure you'll agree. If you have an internet service provider that assigns you a new IP address every so often, you may get warnings intended for others. Please let me know if you have any other questions I can answer. Kuru talk 05:36, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What Change to Greek Temples?

I received a message from Kuru saying that my ability to update pages would be taken away if I keep up blatant vandalism like I did to Greek Temples. But, I don't know what change I made. In fact I don't recall having edited any Wikipedia page (save this one). No one in my family (who shares our fixed IP address) would vandalize Wikipedia. Could you tell me the the change made or how I could find it in order to try to address the problem? Everyone at our home appreciates Wikipedia and the effort put into making it great. The note was sent to my IP address of 67.103.46.18.

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary! You can view the edit in question by clicking on this link: [2]. The change basically consisted of adding the word "CHICCKEN" followed dutifully by 71,719 exclamation points. While I usually assume good faith and simply ask that people are careful with their edits, this is a case where I feel the vandalism was time consuming and deliberate enough to call it blatant.
As to who made the edit, it definitely came from the IP address you are using now. Since it wasn't you, and since I can accept your assessment of the other people who use your computer, the only other thing I can think of would be an unsecured wireless router, which would allow other people to use your internet connection (and would use the same IP).
Regardless, I would encourage you to create an account here; it is painless and easy, and you would avoid any problems with blocks placed against the IP address itself (assuming vandalism continued, of course)! Kuru talk 00:28, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kalendar Koffee House

Hi Ryan, Deleting Kalendar from the coffee house category is wrong. To claim that Kalendar is advertising is also incorrect. The Kalendar article lists date of opening and location with interior photo. The so called "vanity" aspects have been removed from the article. Kalendar may not be as "noteable" as the larger chains, but that should not preclude it from listing in the coffee house category. To call this article spam would be to call all listings in this category spam. The previous AFD article was edited down to be considered for inclusion - tis all. No harm intended. Please reconsider. The following is the opening paragraphs of the Starbucks listing. I imagine that all listings in this category are similar to this.

Starbucks NASDAQ: SBUX (SEHK: 4337), is a large multinational chain of coffee shops, often serving pastries, popular in the US especially among students and young urban professionals. The corporate headquarters are in Seattle, Washington. The company was in part named after Starbuck, a character in Moby-Dick, and its insignia is a stylized cartoon Siren. According to the company's fact sheet, as of February 2006, Starbucks had 6,216 company-operated outlets worldwide: 5,028 of them in the United States and 1,188 in other countries and U.S. territories. In addition, the company has 4,585 joint-venture and licensed outlets, 2,633 of them in the United States and 1,952 in other countries and U.S. territories.

By definition most of the listings in the coffee house category are "non-notable". In fact the majority of the listings are not known outside the constituency where they are established. Being "non-notable" has always been a difficult area for editors. In this instance for example, the band Pursuit of Happiness wrote a song and video about Kalendar (1996 Kalendar/Gretzky Rocks/In Praise Of (T.W.A.-The World's Address). This by definition makes Kalendar a noteable entity by Wikipedia standards see Wikipedia:Notability "A topic has notability if it is known outside of a narrow interest group or constituency, or should be because of its particular importance or impact".
