Joseph Nothern is currently the Claiborne specialist at Macys West Del Amo in Torrance, California. He was previously the Sales manager at Robins DrumWorks in Redondo Beach, California for three and a half years. Currently a private drum instructor also, Joseph spent some years dealing in movie posters, antique toys, and vintage comic books. Known for some years as Kurt North, Joseph lived in Chandler, Arizona for many years where the love of his life, son Brian Christopher Hoblit, still resides and works as a violin teacher. Joseph was the drum teacher at Milano's Music in Chandler and Mesa, Arizona through the mid eighties into the early nineties, and considers that a formative time of his life. He started playing drums in 1967 when he received Are You Experienced for Christmas and was astounded by the drumming of Mitch Mitchell. His first group was called Boiling Point and later, AXIS.from 1969 to about 1971. The lead guitarist was very talented but is no longer with us, and the bass player was John Dragotto, Joe's best friend at the time. Joseph went to Lomita Elementary school, Fleming Junior High, and Narbonne High School and was the editor of the school paper, before attending Harbor College where he eventually became a music major. Through connections in the music department Joseph played many shows including Cabaret. In the late seventies Joseph formed several groups notably Bloody Mary. He worked briefly with Blackie Lawless and Michael Monarch and also worked as a drum tech for Jon Hyde and Frankie Banali. In 1981 using the name Kurt North he played with Neil Citron in Hero, at the Troubadour" in Los Angeles and other gigs. A devoted Ludwig/Paiste player he devoted most of his time to vinage drum collecting during this period. In 1984 Joseph moved to the San Fernando valley and played with L.A.'s Madam X" and The Claw"' with bassist Simon Steele. In 1985 he moved to Chandler, Arizona and started another chapter of his life with the birth of his son, Brian Hoblit, in September of 1986. He moved to Woodland Hills, Califoornia in 1994 for a year and then settled back in the South Bay area where he grew up, and where he still resides. He names as his best friends Sam Adato of Sam Adato's Drum Shop in San Francisco, Terrence Stevens of Bank of the West, Manhattan Beach, and always mentions a deceased friend, Bill Balcom of Lomita.
