[edit] Courtney Love Murder Conspiracy B.S.
I removed a line about faked suicide from the first paragraph. I loathe Courtney Love as both an actress and a "musician"...but calling her a murderer without a bit of proof is wrong. 65.248.164.214 (talk) 16:43, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Photo
you should get a better photo than that first one, he honestly looks like Jon Heder in that picture and its not just because of the hair--24.38.158.214 (talk) 06:19, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I agree. -- 224jeff6 (talk) 15:30, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Agreed a google images search found me these [1] [2] so ya they're great bus basicly it just seems hard to find pictures of him; the whole band might be easier but wouldn't go with the article so didn't look for anyXor24 talk to me 01:11, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
PS: i don't know if these are copyrighted or not
there is soooo many other photos of cobain that are not just found somewhere and there has to be a better photo that that one, with his LONG hair, honestly he looked better with it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TJ Terry (talk • contribs) 02:42, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I really think we should just take that picture down, until someone submits a better one. He's not even recognizable in it! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.32.50.134 (talk) 01:45, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling?
Most of the time "Cobain" is spelled "Kobain". Are you sure of which one of them is correct? 24.192.136.238 (talk) 22:03, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- I searched the article (twice) and couldn't find "Kobain". But, yes, "Cobain" is the correct spelling. ScarianCall me Pat 22:28, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Missing person report
Just to elaborate my removing it -
I had a major problem with the editor's note that was included with what was there. Notes shouldn't be used to inject an opinion as to why something shouldn't be changed - they should only be used where some kind of overriding consensus exists.
"A person claiming to be Cobain's mother" still implies that it wasn't Cobain's mother, and the reality is that we don't have any idea who it was. Reliable sources (including Rolling Stone) say it was O'Connor. Grant says it wasn't. The available scan of the report has the submitter's name blacked out. While it might be notable that it claims that Cobain had a shotgun and might be suicidal, the fact that we don't know who wrote it renders it problematic - we don't know who's making the claim.
And it falls to the POV of his death. If O'Connor wrote it, then a member of Cobain's family was concerned that he was suicidal. If Love wrote it, then it could be (and has been) extrapolated to mean any a number of things.
In the grand scheme of things, that report is not notable enough in the timeline to justify the back and forth of its POV. If mentioning it is important, I suspect it ought to go in the Death article, where we can discuss the issues around it without expanding the timeline here and without injecting one POV over another. -- ChrisB (talk) 04:39, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Drug Addiction
The article claims that Cobain "overdosed the night of the first SNL performance." It states IN Azerrad's book, Come As You Are, that in fact it was a case of cotton fever, in which a stray strand of cotton from the tip of the needle is accidentally injected, resulting in sickness. Also, it happened before the taping of the show, and that's why Cobain's eyes appear "sunken in."
It's all in Come As You Are, and someone needs to update this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.241.122.118 (talk) 02:24, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
In the heavier than heaven biography it says he started smoking marijuana in the eighth grade and later in the book it talks about his addictions and I think it should be added to this sectionTJ Terry (talk) 23:05, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Heavier Than Heaven upcoming movie
I think that we should add some info in the Books and Films on Cobain section about his upcoming bio film. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TJ Terry (talk • contribs) 02:38, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Justice for Kurt

[edit] Kurt commiting suicide..
after Kurt commited suicide many other people worldwide killed themselves because of him killing himself.
[edit] Shotgun inaccuracy
Please lose this, it says Kurt Cobain was found with a shotgun lying by his side, NOT TRUE. The police report states "there is a [shotgun] between the victim's legs with the barrell pointed towards his head and the left hand wrapped around the barrell." In no way can that be said to be lying at his side. 62.136.44.131 (talk) 03:55, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Grunge milestone
I wrote erroneously somewhere that Nirvana and PJ weren't grunge milestones. My bad, they were. Excuse me, Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Gregorik (talk) 11:05, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Artist
Just wanted to draw this into discussion.
Someone recently rewrote the first sentence to be "Kurt Cobain was an American musician and artist" (emphasis mine).
I don't think there's any argument that Cobain was an artist. My issue with the new version is this: Cobain is not widely recognized for his art. Many fans are aware that his art graces the cover of Incesticide and the back covers of Nevermind and In Utero. But his artwork isn't widely recognized beyond those few pieces, nor could most people identify him as the artist of those pieces. He was certainly an artist, but I'm not sure that the recognition for it is notable enough to warrant mention in the first sentence, particularly when the first sentence focuses so heavily on his music. (Regardless, vaguely citing HTH as a source for the statement is not suitable.)
Having said that, I do think it might be worth adding a short piece about his artistic endeavors, specifically about said cover artwork.
Just wanted to see how others felt. -- ChrisB (talk) 01:47, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] New photo from Flikr
Its a freely used picture.
[edit] fn. 24
Probably the water at the hotel here in So Cal. That place used to be owned by a guy who also owned a nuclear waste disposal plant near Las Vegas. Kurt stayed on the 4th Floor next to the elevator as well. I've had a lot of stomach problems there too, but mostly I think they stem from the coffee (2 cups) I drink there every day. Some people, though, do get problems there rather frequently; and I've noticed, there is an unusual amount of brownish calcium buildup in the bottom of the pot in which I boil my water. The City of LA, of course, will never own up to the sundry health violations that they allow to go on at all times. If they did, there would be massive lawsuits filed against thier greedy butt. Anon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.134.110.154 (talk) 00:15, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry about not signing, but that wouldn't be safe. I believe the name of the guy who owned the hotel was a Kishner, brother, son or cousin to the one-and-only Irwin Kishner, co-founder of Las Vegas itself. I'm not sure if Kurt lived there when Damacio Yberra Torres lived there in February 1993, the guy who shot up the LA County USC Hospital. He lived on the 4th floor too, but on the opposite side of the building. The LAPD said that Damacio's room was full of guns after they had to search it due to the homicide nature of his offense. That's what I thought was rather strange. I mean, why did he leave all those guns there, shouldn't he have distributed them to his fellow gang members?
The notes that Courtney wrote to Kurt were written on the backs of the so-called "notices" that the hotel has always had the habit of posting there (up until lately) [cf. the notes written by Courtney in "Journals"; you'll see they were often written on the back of something else]. If I get the time, I can scan one of those notes so you can see what the front of one of them looks like. No detective has ever talked to me though, which I also think is rather strange.

[edit] Kurt Cobain movie
The movie--"Last Days" (2005) stared Michael Pitt in a reminiscent role of Kurt Cobain's life and career. How could Kurt walk around in his home, city and its area--without being mobbed by his fans? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.177.90.103 (talk) 15:28, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Kurt and Mental Illness
I believe that there should be some mention if not a section on the fact that KC probably had bipolar disorder, anybody else agree? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SLTS91 (talk • contribs) 01:07, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
I would agree but I don't know how many verifiable sources there are out there on the subject. I think most people would agree that he at least suffered from depression, if not outright bipolar disorder, so I second the motion that there should be some mention of mental illness in the article. [edit] Suicide Note
Some has included the text of Kurt's suicide note at the end of the "Musical Influences" section. First of all, I'm not sure if the text of the note should be included, abut if people want it to be, then it should probably be in a different section, perhaps "Cobain's final weeks and death," or removed and placed in the article Death of Kurt Cobain. Cadwaladr (talk) 01:54, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree, it seemed to come out of nowhere. I say move it. SLTS91 —Preceding comment was added at 08:20, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kurt is DEAD!
I compiled this e-zine, in 1994, based on postings to alt.music.nirvana (which had just been created) and articles submitted to me in the hours and days immediately after kurt's death. There's some good stuff in it. Wikipedia's guidelines don't allow me to submit it as an external link... and I'm not sure it belongs here or under the Kurt Cobain's Death article (which seems to have some controversy associated with it). In any case, I'd like to submit it for the consideration of others as worthy of being linked to - and the site I'm linking to here is not my own. kurt is DEAD! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tvleavitt (talk • contribs) 14:09, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
