Kurt Edward Fishback is an American photographer noted for his portraits of other artists and photographers.
Son of photographer Glen Fishback and godson of photographer Edward Weston, Fishback was exposed to art photography at an early age as his father's friends included Ansel Adams, Edna Bullock, and Ruth Bernhard. Fishback studied ceramic sculpture at Sacramento City College and took up photography in 1962. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art curated Fishback's first major, one-person exhibit in 1982.
Today, Fishback lives in Sacramento, California, exhibits at galleries and museums, teaches photography, and has published a book of portraits of California artists entitled, Art in Residence: West Coast Artists in Their Space (see illustration). The book includes portraits of 80 artists, including Ansel Adams, Judy Chicago, Brett Weston, and Jock Sturges. Other artist portraits made by Fisback include Cornell Capa, André Kertész, Mary Ellen Mark, and Robert Mapplethorpe.
