[edit] Discussion

based on discussion in Category:Kurdistan, I've created a new category. By intent, this category should be neutral and carry no political overtones. It just lists places where Kurds can be found living.

Like you might tag New York City's Upper West Side with Jewish populated neighborhood. It's where I live, and I can tell how there a lot of synagogues, Jewish schools, and men wearing orthodox headgear and women wearing dresses and skirts. I hear its around 75% Jewish here. But I wouldn't call it a "Jewish neighborhood" on that basis. --Uncle Ed 14:29, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New York, Stockholm etc

Recently this category has been added to articles such as New York[1] and Stockholm[2] based on the fact that these places (and many others) have Kurds living there. This category was supposed to be a compromise to be used instead of Category:Kurdistan but it is open to (willful) abuse. As such, it may be best to use Category:Kurdistan for the purpose of categorising historic Kurdish lands. --Moby 07:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Many cities around the world have kurds living there so this category is too wide, for example there are many kurds who were brought to Guam and not returned yet; shall we add Guam to this category?--Hattusili 10:33, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

I note that you are the editor that added New York in the diff I gave above. It has never been my intention to tag regions that are not the historic Land of The Kurds with any category. If this category is to be viewed that way, I feel that some other category needs to exist for the region the Kurds have always lived in; if not Category:Kurdistan, what then? --Moby 10:48, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

I agree, this category may involve only specific places but we need objective criteria for this. In addition a category about historical lands of an ethnic group may cause trouble in the future, for example Turks can tag Skopje or Beijing as their historical lands or Mongolians can tag Konya as their historical lands etc. I think we should find a proper solution about this issue which may be applicable to all ethnic groups--Hattusili 11:19, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

What regions should we consider as 'historicaly kurdish'? Origins of the Kurds after is a matter of debate. --Cat out 15:10, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
