This infobox template can be used for municipalities of Finland (and other countries too, maybe). An example from Naantali can be seen to the right. The box could contain a map and a coat of arms too, but neither are currently uploaded for Naantali. For images such as these, the image tags need to be written specifically for the article (since if they were in the template, they could not be omitted) - I recommend widths of 230px (or less) for the map (230px is the width of the coat of arms box) and about 75px for the coat of arms (else it will be too big).

The template is based on Template:Infobox_Kommune, used for Norwegian municipalities.

Information for the infoboxes is available at the Kuntaliitto website, in case anyone wants to help me with setting these up. (Tilastokeskus is pretty useless in this case.) Also, if somebody's interested they could upload some coats of arms and maps of Finnish municipalities.

Here's the source code:

Looks good. But "status" is problematic since there is not any distinction between municipalities according to the law. The old "town" and "rural" classification isn't used anymore. (see Municipalities of Finland for more info). -- Jniemenmaa 06:12, August 1, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. It's true that there isn't any de jure distinction between them, but the actual de facto division still exists. The municipalities do use the terms kunta and kaupunki, despite the fact that it has no meaning in law. Still, it is a useful thing to know as it certainly gives an indication of the general type of the municipality. The fact that the division is not official is clear from the municipalities of Finland article that the word city or rural municipality in the template links to, but if you want, you can add a footnote to the template itself explaining the same thing (if it can be done without making the template look ugly). - ulayiti (talk) 12:54, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
"rural municipality" is not used anymore by anyone to my knowledge. I think we should just simply call them either municipality or city (or town). -- Jniemenmaa 13:09, August 1, 2005 (UTC)
There's still at least Jyväskylän maalaiskunta and Rovaniemen maalaiskunta (which will be annexed into Rovaniemi next year), but yeah, I agree. We should use either 'municipality' or 'city' (I prefer 'city' for kaupunki because the kaupunki/kunta division used to be like the UK system, where 'towns' are places that haven't received a Royal Charter - a bit like kaupunkioikeudet). - ulayiti (talk) 14:11, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
I have now changed all instances of 'rural municipality' to just 'municipality'. - ulayiti (talk) 14:42, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

I've added the Naantali coat of arms into the example, since it's now available. - ulayiti (talk) 23:22, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Oh, and there's a map as well now. There you go. - ulayiti (talk) 23:28, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
