Kunri is a small town located in the Sindh province in the southern part of Pakistan. It is about 300 miles (480 km) from Karachi, one of the largest cities in Pakistan. It has a population of about 10,000 people composed of mostly Muslims, however there is a large Christian and Hindu minority. The large population of Christians and Hindus, unique to Pakistan, came about because many people decided not move to India during the 1947 Partition of India.

Kunri's economy is mostly agricultural. The region produces many different types of crops, including red chiles, cotton, and mangos. By far, the most popular crop in Kunri is the red chile, which sustains the financial structure of the town. The majority of traders belong to Hindu minority. This city is located in the tail region of the Indus river, causing a lack of water throughout the year. Nowadays air-conditioned coaches (buses) are running from Kunri to Karachi now the transportation system is improved now as compared to last ten years since 1990-1998.

It has a conservative culture similar to the rest of Pakistan. Women are expected to wear burqa like in the rest of Pakistan. Men wear salwar kameez, typical of the majority of Pakistani men. But the sindhi men also used to keep the sindhi cap on their heads. Jeeps are widely used instead of cars in that area. Whereas the women of this Kunri area wear ghaagra and wear the bangles from shoulders to wrists in their hands.[citation needed]

It is a small town however there are still means of transportation. Transportation consists mostly of rickshaws, three-wheeled motorcycles, and bicycles. There are also cars and buses that enable the citizens of Kunri to travel as far as Karachi. The only single road joining Kunri to Mirpurkhas is in worst condition that required to be repaired immediately in order to reduce problems of this backward city. But nowadays the transportation is getting better and better. The desert runner trucks "KAYKRA" is used to travel in deserted area near Kunri whereas for the transfer of goods like different crops Chauhdary Shahzad Ashraf goods transport company is working.Due to which the transportation of goods from one city to another is getting better and better.

The weather of Kunri remains cold in winter but to 10-12 degree Celsius. But in summer the weather becomes very hot and reaches up to 46 degree Celsius. Dust storms are frequent during the summer season. The average rainfall is about 100 millimeters.

In KUNRI the great personalities who had done the most outstanding work for kunri are from 4 families. They include the Talpur Family, the Dars Family, the Memon Family & the Chauhdary Family and Bhurgri family. The politicians from Talpur family who are famous in Kunri are Nawab Yousaf Talpur, Nawab Taimoor Talpur, Meer Anwar,Meer Munawar & Meer Aman ullah Talpur. Whereas from Memon family the name of Jaam Muhammad Memon and Dr.Dost Muhammad Memon are famous. And from Arain family, Chauhdary Muhammad Ashraf, Chauhdary Muhammad Aslam, Chauhdary Shahzad Ashraf ,M.Saleem Arain M.Jameel Arain & Chauhdary Javed Niaz are the persons who had done the hard work for improving the living standard of the people of Kunri. While Mr.Ghulam Akbar Darss is the man from Darss family who had done the most work for the people of Kunri. Kazi sultan and Kazi Haji Ibrahim are the only people in Kunri city who founded and funded the educational system by creating Kazi sultan High School in 1950s which made Kunri city the Hub of Education for near by villages.Chouhdry Shah Mohammad, and Choudhry Fateh Muhammad were the founders of Rasul Abad primary school,which became one of the well known primary schools in the district of Tharparkar. Without education what would become of all the children of this area as a whole is beyond imagination. Every other great personality named above owes to these founders of basic education including children of Choudry Shah Mohammad ie Choudry Ashraf and grand children who were established on their course of life later on. In 1959, Izhar ul Haque Arain, a student from Rasul Abad primary School and later of Kazi Sultan High School stood FIRST in Matric Examination conducted by Sind University in the whole of distt Tharparkar and stood third in the entire University of Sindh. Kunri's present school system thus owes a lot to these generous families for ever. Mr Sarwar, Ex-Pricipal of Khalid Bin Walid Public School, served people of this area. He laid the foundation of this school, students of this school have achieved a high level of education and are settled in different parts of the world. One of his students, Dr Azhar Ali Bhurgri, secured Second Position in HSC (Higher School Certificate)from BISE Hyderabad.
