kuli, Quli, koli, kohli, kohl are descendants of tribe that migrated from region north of Iran & Iraq during muslim invasions when Zoroastrian believers were made to leave their homelands. it literally means "servants of God". The period of migration can be ascribed from mid 8th century onwards. The Zoroastrian believers are known as parsis in India & still practice their religion. Later some of them converted to islam & are known as Qulis eg 'Ali Quli Khan'. Those which converted to Christianity are known as Kohl eg 'Helmut Kohl' former chancellor of Germany. Those who took up Hinduism are known as 'koli' a Gujrat & maharastra based group. They migrated throu' Sea route.
