Kryoneri (Greek, Modern: Κρυονέρι, Ancient/Katharevousa -on, meaning "cold water" in Modern Greek) is a community of the Greek prefecture of Attica., it is also a rather exclusive suburb of Athens. Malakasa is linked with a road linking Agios Stefanos and Varybombi and has an interchange with GR-1/E75 to the east; it is also linked with GR-79 (Malakasa - Nea Palatia) and roads to Agios Merkourios and Markopoulo Oropou. The area around Kryoneri has farmlands in the central and the southern parts, and mountains further north, while housing developments of Athens did not affect this municipality significantly, although industrial buildings lie further east.Luxury houses and villas arrived in mid '90s and housing developments have accelerated in the last few years, turning this previously rural area into an upper-middle class suburb.Kryoneri is located north of Athens, southeast of Thiva and northwest of Agios Stefanos.
Businesses and services are the most popular industry in Kryoneri, with farming dominating the less developed areas. The Kryoneri Observatory is the main importance of Kryoneri, and features telescopes and further technology.
