KRL Jabotabek

KRL Jabotabek is a mass rapid transit system in Jabotabek, Indonesia. It is commuter trains serving Jakarta and its suburbs. Under PT Kereta Api Indonesia 2nd regional division, KRL Jabotabek serving commuter society in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Sepong. The weekend, KRL Jabotabek have a special program, co opeartion with Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, provides picnic train called Kereta Wisata Ancol.

Each train is constructed by PT Industri Kereta Api (Inka). Trains are optimized for maximum passenger volume, usually in morning and afternoon weekday. The general range of commuter trains varies between 25 and 60 km, with operating speeds from 55 to 110 km/h. Passenger cabin consist of 8 units, with a capacity of 80 - 110 passengers each of unit.

KRL Jabotabek train station are usually located near of main street and are reached from the bus stop or TransJakarta shelter bus. From Jayakarta until Cikini, the railway above the street and the stations are built third level. In the ground floor built of shops for rent. The second level for tickets selling and on the top level for waiting room. The problem, most of poor people used the train station as their resident. It makes uncomfortable situation for the passengers.

The main stations are :

  • Jakarta Kota, final destination of all routes.
  • Gambir, stop only for express train.
  • Manggarai, central point for passenger who change direction to another destination.
  • Pasar Senen
  • Jatinegara
  • Tanah Abang

The passengers of KRL Jabotabek come from different backgrounds, young executive, employees, students, and peddlers. Passenger targets of KRL Jabotabek are the people who important fast and cheap cost, mostly lower middle class people.

The cost of KRL Jabotabek tickets are Rp 1.500 (economic), Rp 5.000 (circle route), Rp 6.000 (economic with air conditioning), and Rp 9.000-Rp 12.000 (express).

Circle route started operation on November 30, 2007 used name Ciliwung express.Start from Manggarai-Sudirman-Karet-Tanah Abang-Duri-Angke-Kampung Bandan-Kemayoran-Senen-Sentiong-Kramat-Pondok Jati-Jatinegara-Manggarai.
