[edit] Image Tagging Image:Zagreb.gif
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Zagreb.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Dijxtra 23:34, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Please, stop!
Please, stop what you are doing right away. You are uploading great number of images which have no source and no copyright information. This is unacceptable for Wikipedia. Also, you are adding the pictures to the articles in a way that is unappropriate for Wikipedia. Please, stop uploading images and adding them to articles before you familiarise yourself with Wikipedia policies and editing customs. --Dijxtra 23:42, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
Before you continue contributing to Wikipedia, please read this two pages: Wikipedia:Image use policy and Wikipedia:How to edit a page. Thank you. --Dijxtra 23:47, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize a page, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Wickethewok 04:58, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Clarification of actions of Wikipedia community
Hi there, it's me again. I noticed the note you left on Heycos' talk page. As I can see you acted in good faith, you were trying to make something constructive... but what you must understand is that your acts looked very much similar to those of a common Wikipedia vandal. Take for example the Oaf article. You googled on "Oaf", found the picture of that chap and the uploaded it to Wikipedia. Now, consider a 10 year old kid who got annoyed by his elder brother so he uploaded his picture to Wikipedia and put it in an article about Oaf. That certainly is vandalism, right? The only problem is that we (Wikipedians who try to prevent vandalism) do not know whether you are conceptual artist trying to intervene into cyberspace or you are 10 year old kid who is trying to vandalize. So we assume the more common situation: the kid situation.
On the other hand, the Oaf situation is not the only problem with your edits. Wikipedia doesn't want to get sued because it publishes images which are copyrighted by someone else. In my country people aren't all that eager to sue somebody for such a trivial thing as a copyright violation, but in USA that's a common practice. So, Wikipedia community must be sure that the images you upload are suitable for us to use them without Wikipedia getting sued. And the images you uploaded do not have suitable copyright information. So you must understand that we are forced to tag them for deletion, not because we don't like you, but because the Oaf guy might decide to sue us because we didn't ask his permittion before using his image.
The third thing is the way you included pictures in the articles. This is how Zagreb article looked like after you intervention: click here. You must agree that the article became quite less usable that it was before your intervention, right? And since Wikipedia is a colaborative project, we didn't revert your intervention because we don't like you but because we want our articles to be more usable than less usable.
As a conslusion, I'd like to appologise now on behalf of Wikipedia community for labeling you with such a unpleasant word as "vandal", but I also ask you to understand the way Wikipedia works. We are attacked by vandals on daily basis and it is sometimes hard to make a distinction between a vandal and a conceptual artist ;-) Just joking, of course. I hope this episode that happened to you yesterday won't scare you of Wikipedia since Wikipedia is trully a great project and it'd be a real shame you decided to leave us because of this misunderstanding... Regards, Dijxtra 10:05, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see how this wasn't essentially vandalism. It had mostly the same effects, and completely ignored the rules of Wikipedia in order to make a "digital art installation". It may be art, but it is still vandalism as well. --Constantine Evans 21:52, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
