In the listing of characters the author of this article issued a startling, and inaccurate assessment of one of the three main characters in this masterpiece of literature. Erland, husband to the heroine of this trilogy, is a flawed character but a fascinating and ultimately good character nonetheless. As illustrated by one of the main priests in the trilogy, Erland is a man without rancor. He also states that though Erland is a man that very much embodies 'out of sight, out of mind' there is one major exception to this rule...Kristin. She is always in his thoughts, even when he is moved to folly. If Erland is to be labeled a 'jerk' then our heroine must share in this description, for it is their passion for one another that drives their life together. Even her sons rebuke her by saying they have all been bloodied by the war between the parents. I hope that the readers will take Erland as he is portrayed by Sigrid, a wonderful man with weakness...but with great strength as well. --Vivitron 13:41, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

This article should be about both the books and the movies. There should be much more about the movie, and comparisons to the books. And there is something weird going on with the runtimes, anywhere from 180 to 200 minutes. Was the actual theatrical release version shorter? The DVD has few extras, but does have Ullmann making disparaging remarks about pressures to shorten. And the term "director's cut" version is used, implied that shorter versions exist. And the DVD has some rough segways, suggesting extra material was cut in crudely. -69.87.204.253 (talk) 03:24, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
