Kristin Fashion Show

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kristin Fashion Show (www.kristinfashionshow.com) is an annual event that aims to raise funding and support for people living with cancer in New Zealand. The Kristin Fashion Show (formerly 'The Canteen Fashion Show') began ten years ago when a senior student at Kristin lost his life as a result of cancer. His peers decided to organise and produce a fashion show in an effort to raise money for CanTeen, the charity that supports young people and their families who are living with cancer, and this has since become an annual event. Five years later, one of the student producers of that year's show also lost her life to cancer. Through this tragic second loss, support for the Fashion Show and all for which it stands has grown to a point where it is bigger and better than ever before. In 2007, the Kristin Fashion Show raised $30,000 for CanTeen and the Child Cancer Foundation from the 'Wonderland' show; the aim for the 2008 show is to raise more than $30,000.

[edit] Beneficiaries

The Kristin Fashion Show is run as charitable event and divides all of the profits made between CanTeen (Website) and The Child Cancer Foundation (Website). Both of these charities are non-profit organisations that work with the aim to better the lives of young people living with cancer and to support cancer research.

Last year over $30,000NZ in proceeds from the show where split between these two charities.

[edit] History

The Canteen Fashion Show was started in 1998 by Tom McRae and Claire Ashenden after a close friend, and classmate, passed away as a result of cancer. The students thought that a positive way to help other teens in this situation was to raise money by hosting a fashion show, and passing the proceeds onto Canteen. The show was a huge success and has continued on throughout the years, growing bigger and better each year.

In 2004 the show stepped up to another level, being given the theme 'A Night In Paris' and beginning to take on some high fashion brands as sponsors for the show.

In 2006, with the show having become so large that it was able to split the proceeds, the producers decided to change the name from the 'Canteen Fashion Show' to the 'Kristin Fashion Show' and, instead of giving all of the proceeds to canteen, divide it between Canteen and the Child Cancer Foundation.

In 2007, the Kristin Fashion Show raised $30,000 for CanTeen and the Child Cancer Foundation; the aim for the 2008 show is to raise over $30,000. To see photos from the 2007 show - http://www.kristin.school.nz/kristin/images/canteen07/images/index.html
