Krishnapura or Krishnapur is a village located near Surathkal and comes under the limits of Mangalore city corporation, Karnataka, India.The place is 3 kilometre from the heart of Suratkal town. Many residents of this place were relocated from Panambur, when the New Mangalore Port Trust was established. In 1969 the families situated at Baikampady were rehabilitated at Krishnapura and were alloted house sites of 12.5 cents each.
It also houses the Krishnapura Matha (Monastery), one of the ashta (eight ) matha's founded by Dvaita philosopher Shri Madhvacharya.
The Mukhyaprana (Hanuman) god inside the Krishnapura matha is considered very sacred.The Krishnapura Matha was built several centuries ago and has marvelous wooden carving. The building is supported by gigantic wooden pillars. It is rare to found such intricate wood carving of such large scale in today's world. The building shows mastery and skills of our ancestors.
The Krishnapura houses one of the Ashta Mathas of Udupi. Ashta Mathas (Eight Monasteries) founded by Dwaitha philosphor Sri Madhwacharya of Udupi. The Matha (Monastery) is known as Krishnapura Matha (Mutt). The idols of Kalingamardana krishna are worshipped here. The matha houses a Mukyaprana (Maruti) temple inside, where puja is performed everyday. The swami or pontiff looks after affairs of matha. The Krishnapura matha has number of branches all over India. Some are at Udupi, Ramanakatte (Near Manipal), Padigaru, Pejavara,Dandithirtha, Padubidri and others mostly in districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi of Karnataka and one in Prayag (Allahabad).
There is a famous Temple called Vishvanatha temple built in 1960. There is also a small Chapel where Christians of Krishnapura, Surathkal, Katipalla gather each Sunday for prayers and worship. The Chapel was built in 1997 and it is currently under renovation.
A grand Mosque called the Badriya Mohamad Ali was built in 1900 wherein about 5000 people can pray. Under this Masjid, an english medium school called the Al-Badriya English Medium High School was started and it imparts education to about 900 students.
