The Kreuzberg is a mountain of the Rhön Mountains. Its height is about 928 metres. It is located in the Bavarian part of the Rhön, in the administrative region Lower Franconia. The Kreuzberg — also called the "holy mountain of the Franconians" — is part of the town of Bischofsheim an der Rhön in the district Rhön-Grabfeld.
[edit] Tourism
Every year the Kreuzberg draws a lot of tourists. People visit the Kreuzberg especially for hiking and in the winter for skiing. For this purpose there are three lifts on the northern side of the mountain. In addition, there is also a luge track on the Kreuzberg.
The monastery which is situated on the peak of the Kreuzberg (Kloster Kreuzberg) is one of the main attractions, as well. Pilgrimages are often practiced to the monastery church. Besides, the monastery is also famous for its beer. The monks brewed beer there until about 1985. The monks still serve beer, but now it is brewed in a brewery in Bischofsheim.
[edit] Broadcasting
There is a facility for FM Radio and TV broadcasting (Transmitter Kreuzberg) situated at 928m altitude on the Kreuzberg. It was established in 1951 and used until 1985, being a 156 metre high guyed mast transmission tower. Since 1985, a 208 metre high guyed mast is used.
