[edit] question

Kyriakos, would you have an email where you can be reached at, I would like to ask you a question.

[edit] Age category

Hello! If you are receiving this message, that means that your user page is in a specific year category. Per a recent user-category per deletion, all specific year categories are to be deleted. If you wish to continue using year categories, you have two options:

  • Using an age group category, such as Category:Wikipedians in their 30s
  • Using a decade category, such as Category:Wikipedians born in the 1970s.

If you wish, you may do both. Hopefully, this change in categorization will be quick and painless. Happy editing! --An automated message from MessedRobot 13:02, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Bulend Biščević

At the very least, the Croatian First League should be considered fully professional, especially since Biščević played for Hajduk Split, one of the country's top two clubs which is on par with many other professional clubs around Europe. --Thewanderer 15:58, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Like I said, the Croatian First League is fully professional. However, there is a noteable difference between the budget of top clubs (such as Hajduk) and lower level clubs, as in all leagues. --Thewanderer 00:42, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Don't "sub-categorize" footballers

Hello. May I ask you not to "sub-categorize" footballers by removing the nationality categories, such as Category:English footballers, even when they are included in a sub-category such as Category:England international footballers or Category:English football biography stubs. The standard practice is to always include them in the super-category concerning its nationality. Thanks. Chanheigeorge 00:18, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Please read Wikipedia:Categorization and subcategories#Incomplete sets of subcategories. The case of these footballers obviously satisfy the criteria. So duplication is preferred. Chanheigeorge 19:36, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Etienne Barbara afd

You are correct — the afd notice should not have been removed from the Etienne Barbara article until the discussion is complete. As the discussion had not yet been closed, I've restored the tag and informed the editor who deleted the tag that this was not the proper procedure. The discussion remains open. — ERcheck (talk) 11:24, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

The process was not followed in this case. However, I suggest that you take note of the discussion on the afd page. The standard for inclusion of players is not their team standing. Etienne Barbara meets the standards of notability for athletes. It is likely that if you continue to nominate such articles for deletion, this will be taken as bad faith and WP:POINT. — ERcheck (talk) 11:33, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

In response your inquiry about the WP:BIO page. Note that this page contains guidelines (not rules) — what has been generally found to be consensus by the Wikipedia community. Note that in the introduction to the section that contains the quote you provided on "Athletes", there are these paragraph:

"The following criteria make it likely that sufficient reliable information is available about a given person. People who satisfy at least one of these criteria may merit their own Wikipedia articles, as there is likely to be a good deal of verifiable information available about them and a good deal of public interest in them."
"This list is only a guideline, and should not be used an absolute test of notability; each article should stand or fall on its own merits."

This means that the community consensus has been that athletes who meet the listed criteria have been found to be notable. It does NOT mean that those criteria are the requirements for notability. It seems that there are many editors who find that an athlete who is on their national team is sufficiently notable to have a Wikipedia article.

As to your question about a single administrator making a decision about deletion — it is the case for Article that meet speedy deletion criteria — an adminstrator can delete without the article being placed on AFD for discussion. However, in most cases, if an article goes to WP:AFD, it does not meet speedy deletion criteria — and consensus is sought from the community, not just from administrators. — ERcheck (talk) 23:19, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia talk:Notability (people)#Regarding notability of Football (soccer) players

Hi, seeing you have been involved in previous Afd debates I invite you to contribute to this discussion to clarify certain issues about football player notability. I think clearer guidelines are needed to avoid repeated inappropriate nominations for deletion and time consuming discussions. Cheers! StephP 17:29, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

I think you've misunderstood my position. I'm not saying that national team appearances is irrelevant when it comes to WP:BIO, I was saying that playing for a national team in itself does not equal notability. Anyone who thinks the opposite are setting the bar waaaaaay too low and badly misinterpreting WP:CSB. If anyone created stubs about every national team player in Bhutan, I would have a problem with that. But national team players from the better (on a worldwide scale) countries definitely need articles. Punkmorten 17:23, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cyprus national under-21 football team

I cannot believe that you created this article simply as a redirect to the senior national team, an article which does not even mention the U21s. I have changed it into a stub. There was no need for this, and I am rather disappointed by it.  Sʟυмgυм • т  c  19:59, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

I suppose that's the only valid reason for doing it, but you really should have done the work on the article before creating the redirect.  Sʟυмgυм • т  c  17:54, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Republic of Macedonia international footballers

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:EPA Larnaka logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:EPA Larnaka logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:42, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Turk-Cypriot politicians

I have removed your PRODs on these articles. I don't think "legality" is relevant here. If you want these articles deleted, you should take them to AFD. Pharamond 20:09, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] TRNC diplomatic missions

I have reinserted the categorisation of Diplomatic Missions by Country to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus diplomatic missions. The general rule is that we do not discriminate against states that are not exclusively recognised, like Taiwan or Israel. Under this principle, if at least one country recognises another's sovereignty then it's diplomatic missions have de jure status, and therefore can fit in the category. This is no endorsement of the Turkish occupation of Northern Cyprus or otherwise, which more importantly, no other country has chosen to recognise as legal. Kransky 12:10, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A new task force

Dear KRBN--given your interests and enthusiasm, I wanted to draw your attention to a new task force that I've set up with various editors. We're basically committed to making sure that the environmental records of major corporations and politicians are accurately and readably represented. [edit] re:Songwriters

Well, "songwriter" is a vague term that I'd avoid. It's mostly used in popular music, and it can refer to composer, lyricist, or both. I'd just stick with composer and lyricist, both of which are specific terms. -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 21:36, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Honestly, I do not know. You could probably put both composers and lyricists of popular music in the category. -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 21:41, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Popular music is music like rock and roll, pop music, and hip hop. Folk/traditional music and art music (classical music) are different, and the composers/lyricists of those types of music (that is, folk/traditional and classical) should probably not be termed as "songwriters". The distinction between popular music and other forms can often be controversial, though, as you can read in the article on popular music. -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 22:14, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Also, by definition, you probably won't know who the composers of folk and traditional music are. -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 22:15, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Well i think a composer is just another term for songwriter in classical music. And the difference between a lyricist and a songwriter is that the lyricist provides only the lyrics when a songwriter writes the notes to all/most of the instruments. Hope i helped.--Duality344 23:02, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Songwriters

As I understand it:

  • "Songwriter" tends to mean someone who writes words and/or melody for any popular music or folk music song
  • "lyricist" can refer to a person who mainly writes lyrics for any popular music or art music composition
  • "composer" generally means someone who writes western classical music pieces

Hope that helps. Maybe it's worth asking at the Music Wikiproject too? :) - Papa November 1 23:17, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Composer does not necessarily refer to someone who writes Western art music. The term is used most commonly among people in the classical music world, but it refers to people who compose popular music too. Songwriter is definitely used only in the popular music world, though (not folk music; don't confuse real folk music with roots revival, the two of which are quite different), and I think its use should be avoided on Wikipedia, because of its ambiguity. -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 22:08, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] {{Euro-sport-bio-stub}}

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 01:27, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

I am not the creator of European sportspeople stubs. I know the rules for creating stubs. I just completed the template since the stub was already created as I saw few months ago. See

[1]--KRBN 07:17, 25 June 2007 (UTC) I thought you should know about the proposal process :) But... the proposal you link was only for a parent category. It isn't supposed to have a Euro-sport-bio-stub template (note Alai's comment in the proposal) - it's supposed to be populated only by child categories or by any (as yet unproposed) upmerged templates for individual countries. Grutness...wha? 00:18, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

Please do not destroy the Azerbaijani and Olympic categories, they were fine! Azerbaijani boxers had to be included into Azerbaijani sportspeople and not into Olympic competitors for Azerbaijan! I think not every Azerbaijani boxer is an Olympian... If you need some more categories you are welcomed to write on my talkpage. Thanks a lot! and :) Doma-w 15:36, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Once again PLEASE stop destroying these categories! It is not imported if up to now all these boxers were Olympians. Do you have any idea why I wrote e.g. "| 3bronze" and not |Bronze?? If you write 1gold, 2silver and 3bronze then the medalists are in the right order. So the gold medalists are on top and not the bronze medalists... Please accept that there is a reason and it is not just for fun. On the other side I have no idea why cat:Azerbaijani weightlifters are only categorized under Cat:Weightlifters by nationality and not under cat:Azerbaijani sportspeople? Are they no sportspeople? Doma-w 13:10, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Please stop, KRBN... your edits of this type are not helpful. Punkmorten 13:33, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
