[edit] Origin

It would be useful to note whether the name Kovacs in Hungarian comes from Kovač, and if there's any relation to ethnicity with the bearers of the name. --Joy [shallot] 28 June 2005 21:52 (UTC)

[edit] Rename

This page should be renamed to Kovacs or Kovács. As far, as i see, this is a hungarian name (228.000 vs others). And others are mainly hungarian minorities. --Slovan 9 October 2006 09:54 (UTC)

You probably want to propose a merger of this article and Kovacs. See WP:MM. -- JHunterJ 11:15, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
I strongly oppose merging or renaming. Kovač is a clear Slavic variant of the surname and this article should speak about it. The Kovacs article speak about Hungarian one (no matter that Hungarian name is in fact Slavic too, but it is better to have two separate articles because Kovač and Kovacs are indeed separate words). Yes, there should be a better reason to merge than has been given. We certainly have separate pages for some Scottish and Irish versions of the same (Irish) name. If the pages link to each other, the reader is helped. Charles Matthews 14:55, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
