Kovač

Kovač (Ковач), meaning "forger" (or "blacksmith") in Slavic languages, is a common Slavic surname in Croatia, Serbia, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia.
There are approximately 9,500 people with this surname in Croatia, most of them living in northern and eastern parts of the country. Whilst in Slovenia some 4,826 bear the last name. Its derivative form Kovačić or Slovenian Kovačič is actually slightly more common. Another derivative is Kovačević.
Kovač is a relatively frequent surname also in Romania and Slovakia. The name Kovacs is also used in Hungary.
