Kousséri is a city in Cameroon, lying on the border with Chad, across the Chari River from N'Djamena. It is a market town and is growing extremely fast. It had a population of 76,200 in 2001. Estimated population 2007: 500,000.
In 1900, the then village saw a decisive battle between local forces and French colonialists, victory which secured French rule over Chad.
