The Kourkouas or Curcuas (Greek : Κουρκούας, Armenian: Գուրգեն, Gourgen) family was one of the many nakharar families from Armenia that migrated to the Byzantine Empire during the Islamic invasions. The family name is derived from the Old Persian word for wolf.
