Nikolaos (Nick) Koumartzis (1984-...)

Nikolaos Koumartzis is a Greek writer (1984- ...) whose research focus on metaphysical philosophy, psychical research, medieval history, religions, etc. He is a member of Gateway Team, the most well-organized team concerning metaphysical philosophy in Greece, and coordinator of the Greek portal www.metafysiko.gr, of the English portal www.metafysiko.org, of the Hellenic Society of Metaphysics with more than 3.500 members (2006) and of the Greek portal www.explorers.gr which focus on alternative journeys/ research on the spot of places with mythological or historical interest.

[edit] Briefly for his career in the field

  • Since September 2003 he has been an active member of Gateway Team (www.metafysiko.gr), publishing on the website part of his research.
  • Since February 2004 he has been a (founding) member of the Community of research of Universities in Thessaloniki (Κ.Α.Π.Θ.). participating in the organisation of film screenings, speeches and discussions in the context of "paranormal under the scientific light". All the latter have taken place in classrooms of the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki.
  • Since the beginning of 2006 he has been a member of the British Society of Psychical Research (British SPR - www.spr.ac.uk), the oldest academic society concerning scientific research on paranormal phenomena (year of foundation 1882, from Cambridge academics).
  • Since February 2005 the organization of “Medieval Rose” nominates him as an Honorary Member. Up to today, he is trying to promote the idea and to help with organizing the 1st Medieval Festival in Greece.
  • In the end of 2003 he collaborated initially with the editorial house Archetypo – Metaekdotiki and the magazine Strange. From June 2004 to March 2006 he collaborated as an article writer - author with the editorial house Agnosto and the magazines Strange and Mystic Greece. Since April 2006 he has been collaborating with the editorial house Archetypo - Metaekdotiki and the magazines Mystery, Avaton and Forbidden History.
  • Since the middle of 2005 he has been Chief Editor of the webpages www.metafysiko.gr, www.explorers.gr and www.metafysiko.org.
  • From time to time he has taken courses of "Creative Writing" near writers of international reputation (Paul Johnston, etc.).

Nikolaos Koumartzis was born in Thessaloniki on September 17th 1989. He grew up in a small village of Kilkis where he had lived since 2001, while studying and working in Thessaloniki. He is a 3rd generation descendant of Smyrneans and Constantinopolitans (something obvious in his researches).
From a young age he indulged with poetry and literature (small short stories). Among his first literary readings were works of H.P.Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe and Robert Bloch. Since then he has studied extensively the works of H.P.Lovecraft. Among the rest of the writers that have influenced him substantially are Luscious Anaeos Seneca, Herman Hesse and Guy de Maupassant.

From the age of 4 he tries to find answers in the subject of death, a relative text has been published in www.metafysiko.gr by the academic community of Κ.Α.Π.Θ.
He devotes enough of his free time in the historical and linguistic of the sacred texts of Christianity, the Christian tradition but also in the apocrypha texts of the religious system in question.

From the total history of the world, he prefers to study the history of the Byzantium, the Medieval history of the Western and Eastern world, emphasising in the extremely interesting (historically and religiously) period of the Holy Crusades. Since the beginning of 2004 he has focused on the study of history, legends and modern conundra that embrace the Greek castles, carrying out researches on the spot and tours in the most important medieval buildings of Greece. Some relative articles have appeared repeatedly in the magazine Mystic Greece published by Agnosto Publications and in the magazine Mystery published by Archetypo Publications. His first personal book titled "Castles and Legends in Greece" has been published in 7th May of 2007, currently available in all bookstores in Greece.
During the whole year he travels in Greece and the rest of the world in search of legends, fables, mysteries and rare books.

He works as a freelance writer in magazines in the latter area of research. His articles can be found on a permanent basis in the magazines Mystery, Avaton and Forbidden History. In the past he collaborated with the magazines Strange and Mystic Greece. Finally, this period he collaborates with the Archetypo Publications for the publication of his books.

He has graduated from the Department of Informatics (Computer Science) of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) and from the College of Communication of University of Arts (London) from the postgraduate program MA Publishing.
He has moderated various of academic publications for the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Open University of Catalonia, etc. and he was the co-author of the academic/ education publication titled "Human Computer Interaction: Advance Applications and UI" which is now in use in the undergraduate and postgraduate program of Department of Informatics of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
His thesis for the Department of Informatics, titled "The Art of Graphic Design", focus on the communicative power of the image and a well-designed project and he was first introduced by him in the entire history of the above mentioned Department.
