Kosuke Ueki

Kosuke Ueki (植木 耕助 Ueki Kōsuke?) is a fictional character in the manga and anime series The Law of Ueki and the sequel, The Law of Ueki Plus. In the anime, Ueki is voiced by Romi Paku in the Japanese version and Dan Green in the English version.

In The Law of Ueki, Ueki is a 13-year-old student in class 1-C at Hinokuni Junior High School. Ueki is granted "the power to change trash into trees" by Kobayashi (a.k.a. Koba-sen), Ueki's homeroom teacher.

Ueki is a genuinely kind person who is always trying to help people. A bit of a simpleton, he repeatedly uses his ability against those without abilities because he just cannot stand seeing nasty people defying his sense of justice. Even though he constantly loses his talents (gaining fairly useless ones when he wins), he believes that he can still succeed by exerting sufficient effort.

Ueki is actually a heavenly being sent to Earth by his father in order to take part in this tournament. Being a heavenly being allows him Sacred Powers, which he is continually training, beyond his candidate-given ability. Despite the fact that the power to change trash into trees may look weak in the eyes of others, there is a twist to it: Other power-users only have the ability to change item A to item B; (for example from beads to bombs, and from water to fire), but Ueki can use a piece of the trees and turn it into another tree. His level 2 power, nicknamed "The Reverse" by Kobayashi, is the ability to turn other power-users' item B back into item A. Ueki also gains the ability to use more than one of his Sacred Powers during his second battle with Robert Haydn, unlike others who can only use one at a time.
