Kosovo, and its broadcaster RTK is now applying for EBU membership, and wishes to enter Kosovo into Eurovision Song Contest 2009.[1][2][3] Kosovo would be making their Eurovision Song Contest debut in 2009 if Kosovo joins the EBU. However this is controversial because the host country, Russia and some other participating countries do not recognise the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo's Parliament, therefore they can reject Kosovo's EBU membership. However Kosovo is eligible to join as stated by the EBU.[4]
According to the Kosovan newspaper Koha Ditore, the 2009 entry would be selected via a national final called Akordet e Kosovës, a former pop show that had been taken off the air some years ago. [5] [6]
