Kormakitis

Kormakitis (Greek spelling Κορμακίτης, Turkish: Koruçam) is a small village near the northwestern cape of Cyprus, in the area occupied by the Turkish army, also called the TRNC. It is the historical centre of the Maronite Church in Cyprus. The Cape Kormakitis is named after the village. Before the war of 1974 the village had around 1000 inhabitants. Kormakitis is one of four Maronite villages in Cyprus. After theTurkish Invasion of Cyprus, there are only a small number of inhabitants still living in the village. The Maronites of Kormakitis speak a unique Arabic dialect.
