[edit] The Brewery

Kopparbergs is Sweden's largest beer and cider brewery based in Bergslagen. Now a publicly quoted company, it was originally founded by a group of small brewers, the Kopparbergs factory was built in 1945 and operated at capacity until 1988 when it was taken over by a Swiss brewery. In 1993 the Swiss owners pulled out of the business, leaving the brewery in the possession of the bank. The brewery was reopened in early 1994 by brothers Peter and Dan-Anders Bronsman who have been running the business since.

[edit] Introduction to the UK

Kopparbergs cider was introduced in 2003 to the UK by B O Times1 Limited [[1]], after the owner visited Sweden whilst managing the now dissolved band Marlowe. Kopparbergs had previously attempted to launch in partnership with Bulmers but never succeeded in securing a contract.

The Kopparbergs brand is now making headway in the UK and has been nationally available since early 2006. It is marketed and distributed by Cider of Sweden (www.ciderofsweden.com), a subsidiary of Kopparbergs Brewery, Sweden. Kopparberg Cider is growing in popularity in the UK where it is now stocked by most major UK supermarket and bar groups. It comes in a variety of flavours, including Apple, Pear and Mixed Fruit.
