KOPT is a former commercial radio station located in Eugene, Oregon, broadcasting on 1600 AM. The station changed ownership and callsigns, and is now KOPB-AM. It airs public radio programming primarily from NPR.

[edit] Sale of Station

On November 28, 2007 it was reported that Oregon Public Broadcasting will purchase KOPT from Churchill Media for $500,000. OPB plans to begin broadcasting content from NPR in December, 2007. It was reported that nationally syndicated talk show host, Ed Shultz attempted to bring together investors to buy the station, but the deal fell through. Churchill Media stated in an on-air announcement that they are continuing to work with potential investors in an effort to keep Air America Radio on air in Eugene. If successful, Air America's programming will move to their lower powered sister station, KLZS 1450 AM.

OPB sent a letter to its members in November of 2007 stating that programming would be taken over during December, however not until February 2008 did the station announce that it will switch over to OPB on February 20, 2008 at 3:00 PM local time. In the interim the station had dropped the ABC News Radio updates. [1]
