[edit] Australopithecus vs Paranthropus

When I was in school everything was Australopithecus, but it seems the most current consensus leans toward Paranthropus. To stay consistent with the human evolution articles I think we should stick with paranthropus. I will try to find the rational on the other talk pages and link it. We just don't want to confuse any lay readers. Nowimnthing 00:21, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

previous discussion of paranthropus term [1], I think the most persuasive argument is that is the classification the smithsonian currently uses [2]. Nowimnthing 00:29, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Australopithecus versus Paranthropus

Paranthropus is the relatively new genus term for Australopithecus boisei & Australopithecus robustus. These two hominids as well as Paranthropus aethiopicus are now referred to as Paranthropines (i.e., Paranthrpus boisei, Paranthropus robustus).

Australopithecus afarensis, Australopithecus anamensis, Australopithecus africanus are all still Ausatralopthecines.with love, Pre-ski1888 03:05, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
