[edit] A Round Tuit for Wee Pals
A Round Tuit | ||
I, Agent 86, present you with this Round Tuit for your work on Wee Pals. I have had this on my watch list for months, meaning to expand it once I could get around to it. Obviously, you got one before I did, and you did an excellent job on the article to boot. Agent 86 22:35, 10 January 2007 (UTC) |

Ah, geez, your thank you really came at a good time. The real world can really suck sometimes, and a kind word from a virtual colleague can be a ray of light through the clouds. I know I've got my cliche machine turned on, but you get the idea.
I don't know that I'm doing anything special, other than going to the Grand Comics Database, Googling a couple different ways, and devoting way too much time. But it's great to feel that someone, somewhere, appreciates the effort. Thank you, K. — you've made my day! --Tenebrae 16:50, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Reiko Ike
Hi, Konczewski-- Good job, you beat me to starting that article! I've been accumulating info on Ike, and I'll add what I can to the article later. I'm glad to see someone else cares about this genre anyway. You might want to see if you can add anything to Naomi Tani or Junko Miyashita too. Regards. Dekkappai 23:21, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, Konczewski. You did a great job, considering you can't read Japanese. Her family name is Ike (pronounced "Ee-kay", not pronounced like Eisenhower's nickname), taken from her real family name, which was Ikeda. I'm still digging around for more to add to the article-- we need some discussion of her contributions to the Sukeban (delinquent girl) genre, and maybe a brief discussion of that genre too. I prefer to use English sources when possible, as per English Wikipedia policy, and think I may have found a good source that I'll have access to in a week or two. One iffy thing in the article is her birth month. IMDB and some Japanese sources give May. But Japanese Wiki and some Japanese sources give June. We might give both until we find a conclusive source. Dekkappai 17:13, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I think all these articles (on erotic actresses or models) are really incomplete without a photo. However determining what is "fair use" is a headache I've usually chosen to avoid. The one fair use policy that I'm fairly sure of is using an image of a film poster to illustrate an article on that film. Someone would almost certainly remove an image of Ike's album if it were used to illustrate an article only on Reiko Ike. But if the article, or a section of the article, specifically discusses the album, an image of the album cover would qualify as fair use, to my understanding. As far as the partial nudity, Wikipedia's policy is that it is not censored. As long as it's not intentionally offensive (and providing an illustration of the album in a discussion of it should not be considered intentionally offensive), it should be OK. Alternatively, we could use an image of a poster of one of her films, or even a DVD cover, in the section in which that film is discussed. That's my understanding anyway... Now that I think of it, discussing the "Pinkie Violence" collection, or one of the other two recent DVD releases, and including an image of that might not be a bad idea... Glad to help. Since there are two minor (but notable) characters of this name from two companies, you might want to follow the model used at Spirit of '76 (comics) or Phantom Eagle. Hope this helps! --Tenebrae 16:45, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Anytime. And examples of that other situation would be Black Widow (Timely Comics) & Black Widow (Marvel Comics), and Lobo (Dell Comics) & Lobo (DC Comics). --Tenebrae 16:56, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I saw your new Stardust the Super Wizard entry, and I wanted very much to compliment you on how well you've integrated the WikiProject Comics editorial guidelines and exemplars. Bravo! I wish many more WPC editors were like you! --Tenebrae 16:33, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Dreadstar fan
Thanks for your most kind note! Yes, I'm a huge Dreadstar fan, and my user name was taken from both Dreadstar and Syzygy Darklock (with an extra 'e' thrown in for fun... I've been collecting that series since the early 1980's (including the Epic Magazine series). Syzygy was introduced in "The Price:Metamorphosis Odyssey Book Two by Jim Starlin", published by Eclipse Enterprises Date: October, 1981.
Thanks for the explanation of the heading change you made. I still think it's redundant and goes against Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings). I may join Wikiproject Comics and discuss this from there, becasue it just looks like we're treating our readers as dummies, and providing repetitive material - not to mention violating MOS (I'm still checking into that last part). I keep meaning to add material to the Dreadstar related articles, but never seem to the time or energy...;) Dreadlocke ☥ 18:46, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- I like it too, "fictional character biography", but it might be better suited as a category rather than a section heading. I don't know if there's already a cat for that, if not, you might want to create it and spread it around Wikipedia! I think that would be very cool! I'll check out your changes to Dreadlock! It's great to see them expanding! Dreadlocke ☥ 18:53, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
-
- BTW, I don't think we should remove "fictional character" from the first sentence of the lead, that's exactly where it belongs. That information needs to be delivered right away, at the beginning of the article, not later in a section heading. Plus, that would be cconfusing, so I'm against that. I believe it needs to be removed from that section heading. I'm trying to verify that with those who have more experience in that area. Dreadlocke ☥ 19:19, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps you can help, I was looking through the Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/editorial guidelines and the various discussion pages for the information on titling sections as "Fictional character biography", but I can't seem to find anything on it. There's a lot of information, and I was hoping to quickly identify the right place to join in on the conversation. If you could point it out, that would be awesome! Dreadlocke ☥ 19:35, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- If you happen to remember which FA articles you looked at, I'd enjoy taking a look at them! Thanks! Dreadlocke ☥ 19:51, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the articles. It's interesting, the Batman section has a very different content, it tells the character's history from outside the comic. The Plastic Man section does a little bit of both, it also tells some of the history from "inside" the comic. The Syzygy Darklock article tells the story only from "inside" the comic. (If that makes sense...) And you're so right, the article size does make a huge difference. The section heading in Syzygy's article jumps right out at me, whereas the other two aren't readily apparent unless you're looking for it. Hmmmm.. Well, I'm checking to see what the experts say about it. I'll let ya know!
I'm very glad to meet you! Dreadlocke ☥ 20:05, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- Um, it just kills me to see that huge heading in that tiny article. Can we remove it until the article grows and/or we get confirmation that the redundancy stuff is ok to do? Dreadlocke ☥ 20:08, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- LOL! I love it..."wikideath"..thanks for the laugh and the permission! Dreadlocke ☥ 20:43, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
I have a scanner and all the issues, so if there are any pics you think might be good to add to the articles, let me know and I'll try to find the right one. I think most of the pics that are up now are ones that I uploaded. Dreadlocke ☥ 21:04, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Price
Dude, what do you think? The Price (graphic novel). Could use your help with it! Dreadlocke ☥ 20:55, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- I was debating with myself whether or not to put some duplicate links in the "see also" section. The MOS - See also says "ideally" - and since I personally had a hard time picking out the Dreadstar-related links...thought it might be best to put them all together. But I'm not stuck on it, so go ahead and remove the dups if you like. As for the rest of the article, it needs some re-writing, glad to see you doing that. I didn't write most of it, so no landmines anywhere...;) I look forward to getting it into good shape.
- On a side note, I wonder if Metamorphosis Odyssey could be made into a featured article condition. I'm going to scan in some more stuff, and try to expand the article a bit...see what happens... Dreadlocke ☥ 01:45, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the great advice! I'll definitely see about incorporating all your suggestions. Yeah, "The Price" is mostly a stand-alone Syzygy story, with Vanth appearing in the last three pages...and being mentioned quite a bit throughout the story...but essentially, I think it's "Syzygy Darklock in The Price".
I kind of range across a bunch of articles and wiki-activities, but I'll see how much I can focus on these Dreadstar-related articles. I really think a space opera like this, with so much history can be made into FA - but it will take more than just me fiddling around with it...;) Dreadlocke ☥ 01:32, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Excellent edits to "The Price"! I was racking my brain last night for that section heading you put in - "synopsis"....most excellent! I spun off Dreadstar (graphic novel) too. Trying to slowly take your advice and edit Metamorphosis Odyssey! Dreadlocke ☥ 17:50, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Categorizing comic book characters by team
I just thought you should know that months ago it was decided by WP:CFD that comic book characters aren't supposed to be categorized by team membership. Have no fear, you've already done what was needed by supplying the fair use rationale. The deletion notices that appear as the captions on the article page can be deleted. They're just there as apart of the automated process when the original deletion tag was made. --WebHamster 15:01, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Appreciate what you're saying...
...and you're being very generous and bending over backwards to show good faith regarding the Hazel book.
I did a little digging, and it turns out this ostensible book isn't even available yet -- not even for pre-order on Amazon ... neither by full title, partial title, ISBN number, or even just "Shirley Booth." If/when this book comes out, it certainly might be notable, but as of now, any mention of this nonis both pre-publication publicity and WP:CRYSTAL. (I also checked alibris.com to see if it's an old book — the editor included no year of release for it — and turned up nothing there or in a general Google search.) --Tenebrae (talk) 02:54, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- And let me applaud you for your own research! Finding the publisher when the initial editor didn't include it, and the book was turning up nowhere else ... that's pro-quality research.
- I feel bad about what I'm about to say, given all your work, but on the other hand, it's only a temporary thing: Wikipedia disallows links to commercials sales sites. And this site, which is selling the book and taking credit-card orders, is the only site, as of May 11, 2008, that mentions this book. So, we can't cite this site. (See "Links normally to be avoided".) I should note, now that I know who the publisher is, that Bear Manor has a history of seeding Wikipedia with links to its sales pages, trying to use Wikipedia for free advertising.
- I do agree it's worth mentioning that Key wrote the forward to a book about Hazel. But we need to wait until a disinterested outside source, such as a book review or a newspaper article, writes something about it. Fortunately, we have the deadline on our side!--Tenebrae (talk) 10:46, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
The blind leading the blind. You're quick to judge that the book doesn't exist because you can't find a review yet on the internet. Well, first off the book was just released so it doesn't have any reviews yet. The publisher BearManor Media didn't need to and doesn't seed Wikipedia to get free publicity. Your remark about a disinterested outside source as criteria for putting something on wikipedia is absurd. SO much of wikipedia is tainted with self-aggrandizing ego trips for the compilers. Here, where information is given by the subject who just died (Ted Key), all those ready to undo copy come out to undo useful information for someone researching Ted Key. Shouldn't those interested researching individuals know that Ted Key gave vital information before he died to an author (and it was published)?TedKey2/talk 17:15, 15 May 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by TedKey2 (talk • contribs)

- K: I've posted a response at User talk:TedKey2. And personally, I want to say thank you for your diligence regarding this instance of WP:COI self-promotion. TedKey2 is right about one thing — there are many examples of "self-aggrandizing ego trips," and I'm surely glad there are fellow editors like you watching out for them. It's a pleasure to work with such a knowledgeable and good-tempered colleague as yourself! --Tenebrae (talk) 21:30, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm right about many things, especially something I've said over and over again - the book citing Ted Key's contributions does exist. Go to Target or Amazon and see for yourselves!!!
