[edit] Name

The explanation given for the name makes little sense to me and I have never heard it before. That the city/fortress is the King's wings defending him for Sweden must be a later interpretation of the name, since the name Vinger (from what I have read in books about Kongsvinger's history) predates the fortress and any association with the king (probably by several centuries). I have also never seen any conclusive explanation for the name Vinger. I checked a large Norwegian encyclopedia/encyclopedic dictionary, and it just speculates. The name simply means The King's (part of?) Vinger, whatever Vinger might be/mean. Ters (talk) 10:13, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
