Konan (湖南市 Konan-shi?) is a city located in the southern part of Shiga, Japan. The city was founded on October 1, 2004 when the towns of Kosei and Ishibe merged.
As of 2004, the town has an estimated population of 54,707 and a density of 776.09 persons per km². The total area is 70.49 km².
The term "Konan" means "South of (the) lake". Konan is located in the south of Lake Biwa.
