KONTAN
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
KONTAN (literally means "paying by cash" in Indonesian) is an economic and business weekly newspaper published in Jakarta, Indonesia. KONTAN's first edition was published on 27 September 1996. It focuses on economic and business issues, personal finance, management, politics, small-to-medium enterprises, and soft articles about entertainment and celebrities.
The first KONTAN Chief Editor was A. Margana, a senior journalist who worked for TEMPO magazine for many years. TEMPO was shut down during the Suharto rule in 1994. Margana worked at FORUM Magazine for two years before building KONTAN together with five young ex-TEMPO journalists.
KONTAN's editor board is currently led by Yopie Hidayat. Like Margana, Yopie once worked for the newspaper for years. Before joining with Margana, he was a manager at the Jakarta Stock Exchange.
