[edit] Referendum

"After a referendum held in October of 2004, Permyakia was merged with Perm Oblast to form Perm Krai."

Can somebody to write more about this referendum? The ethnic Permyaks were majority in this region and it is strange that people vote to abolish their autonomy. What kind of referendum was that? Was it on the regional level of Permyakia or on the country level of Russia? What were its results? Does somebody know this? PANONIAN (talk) 21:53, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
The referendum was held both in Permyakia and Perm Oblast. The people of Permyakia voted for it because the economics of this region are rather weak, while Perm Oblast is more potent, and people of Perm Oblast' either didn't care or believed it is a good idea. After all the Krai as a whole may get some autonomy (by the way Permyakia never was an autonomy like e.g. Tatarstan is).  Grue  17:21, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
I remember answering the question about the referendum in the past. In fact, that discussion is available through my talk archives. Hopefully it will be of interest to you.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 14:19, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Hm, you wrote there that "Permyakia will still have a special status within new Perm Krai", so, if I understand correctly, Permyakia still exist as administrative unit, although it is no longer federal subject of Russia, but only subdivision of Perm Krai? If that is so, should we write new article about Permyakia describing its current political status? I understand that this article is about former Autonomnous District of Permyakia, but if it still exist as some kind of administrative unit, we should write that somewhere. PANONIAN (talk) 00:18, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, maybe we should not write new article, but we certainly should have something written here about current political status of Permyakia. PANONIAN (talk) 00:32, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
We definitely should; in fact, it was my intention since, well, December of 2005.—Ëzhiki (Igel Hérrisonovich Ïzhakoff) • (yo?); 12:08, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
