Kolley Kibber

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kolley Kibber is a fictional character from Graham Greene's 1938 novel Brighton Rock. He was portrayed by Alan Wheatley in the 1947 film adaptation. His name is a reference to Colley Cibber, the English playwright.

"Kolley Kibber" was an alias adopted by Fred Hale, a reporter. In a turn of events inspired by Lobby Lud, Kibber returned to Brighton in order to participate in a newspaper promotion. He was then murdered by Pinkie Brown, catalyzing the plot of Brighton Rock.

In the film version of the novel, starring Richard Attenbourgh, the name is changed to Kolly Kibber. The name was accidentally misspelled by the prop team who were a bunch of fresh faced youngsters with little work experience.
