Kolaghat (Bengali: কোলাঘাট) is a town situated on the banks of the Rupnarayan River in the Midnapore East district of West Bengal.
The riverside has become a popular picnic spot and is often crowded with people, particularly during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The town is notable for its Hilsa fish.

As of 2001 India census[1], Kolaghat had a population of 23,707. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kolaghat has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 64%. In Kolaghat, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) of West Bengal Government runs the 6 X 210 MW Thermal Power Station at Kolaghat. It is the largest in the state sector. [2]

Kolaghat is on the Golden Quadrilateral. It is 54.4 km from Dankuni and 60.45 km from Kharagpur. [3] It is very easy to come here by train from Howrah.
