The surname Kolačarić derived from the word and occupation Kolačar (Kolač: Pastry, Kolačar: Pastry Chef). The origin before Sumadija is unclear.

The descendants can be found in Serbia (concentrated in Lazarevac and Belgrade), Sweden (Stockholm) and the United States. In the 1960's two brothers from the Kolacaric family moved from Belgrade to Stockholm, Sweden. The most famous Kolacaric is the Serbian actress Sonja Kolačarić.
