Koinange Street

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Koinange Street is a busy street in the city of Nairobi, Kenya. It is a major Red-light district in Kenya.[1]

By day, Koinange street is a very respectable street with businesses like banks, hotels, malls, electronic shops, filling stations etc. But at night it turns into a Red Light District.

Prostitution is illegal in Kenya. By law if one is found practicing or soliciting he/she is bound for prosecution. These laws are rarely enforced by the police in a serious manner.[citation needed] They have been known to carry out arresting operations when they feel like.[citation needed] Many of the prostitutes are college girls who, being bereft of other means of financial support turn to willing sex buyers. Others hail from Nairobi's poorer areas. Most of these girls are not purely prostitutes. They have boyfriends and a life outside the practice, only turning to the vice to make ends meet.
