Talk:Kobayashi aikido
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have a few questions. Is the style separate from the Aikikai. I know his students in Japan are part of the Aikikai. If it is separate, who created it as a separate organization - Kobayashi or his European students.
I removed it from the list of styles for the moment because at least in Japan the dojo founded by Kobayashi is very much Aikikai. If the above point is clarified I can add it back.
Secondly one of the big things missing from the Wikipedia articles on Aikido is a biography on Kobayashi H.. Be great if one could be written. Its enough to start small and expand (cut and paste will be deleted). Even a translation of the Polish or German versions would be enough.Peter Rehse 05:46, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi Peter, I did not want to get into an edit war ... just new to wikipedia, that's all.. The style is very very different from Aikikai ... The Kobayashi school sits in seiza and don't step forward on their toes during suwari waza - they slide on the whole foot. Besides, shihonage, kotegaeshi and other techniques are different - some subtly, some significantly.
I can try to write a biography of Kobayashi Hirokazu, but the problem is that of reinventing the wheel ... The Polish Wikipedia already has a big article on him, and I don't know Polish - neither have I found good Polish-English translator on the web. Seanturner 06:12, 11 July 2007 (UTC) Sean Turner
Yes it is tough. Just start small - I would take a look at the Tetsuro Nariyama page (this guy lived with Kobayashi for six years) as an example. Over time others will add and I definately will link certain articles to what ever you create and help as I can. I actually had to remove Kobayshi H. from the list of famous Aikidoka because it was a dead link. Any article, no matter how small, allows me to put it back in. Please leave a message on my talk page if you need any help. My two favorite Aikidoka were long term students of Kobayashi and in fact I was in Osaka when he died.Peter Rehse 06:27, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi Peter, you have already added the biography of Hirokazu Kobayashi. Thanks a lot, buddy. Seanturner 12:19, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Yes - but it needs work especially to tie it into this article which also needs to answer the questions I posed at the beginning of this talk page.Peter Rehse 02:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I have added some details ... not much, but a start.. Will append more material whenever I can. Seanturner 10:13, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
