Kobayashi (小林市 Kobayashi-shi?) is a city located in Miyazaki, Japan.

As of the merger with Suki but with 2003 population estimates, the city has an estimated population of 41,992 and a density of 88.5 persons per km² (229 persons per sq mi). The total area is 474.23 km² (183.1 sq mi). The city is suffering from low population dropage like the city Miyakonojo.

The city was founded on April 1, 1950. On March 20, 2006 the village of Suki merged with the city, roughly doubling the city's size.
